🌧️ No Flower Stall This Week 🌧️

With over a wheelbarrow’s worth of rain in the last 24 hours, I’ve decided to give the stall a miss this week!

Hopefully, things will dry out a little over the coming days, and I’ll be back with fresh blooms next week. 🌻💐

🌻 A little behind the scenes at Buds and Suds 🌻

Not every growing season goes to plan, and I wanted to share a little of what’s been happening behind the scenes.

I’ve been battling an unexpected issue with soil I purchased that appears to have herbicide contamination. I bought it without a second thought, as I’ve purchased from the same supplier many times before without any problems.

Unfortunately, the effects have been significant. It hasn’t just affected my sunflower patch, but also the seedlings I’ve been growing over the past three months. As a result, the variety and quantity of flowers available have dwindled. 🌱

💡 A lesson learned the hard way!

From now on, I’ll be testing any new soil before using it in my flower beds. A simple way to check for possible herbicide contamination is to grow a few bean plants in it and watch their growth over a couple of weeks. Beans are particularly sensitive to certain herbicides, and distorted or twisted new growth can be an early warning sign.

🌼 The good news!

Not all of my beds have been affected, so there will still be flowers available at the stall each week. There just might not be quite as many varieties or bunches for a little while.

With some much-needed rain finally arriving, I’m hopeful that better days and plenty more beautiful blooms are just around the corner! 🌧️🌻

It’s a shame these beauties can’t make their way into the weekly bouquets, but I’ll happily enjoy them in the garden while they last! 💜🌿

🌻 Walkabout Wednesday 🌻
There’s still plenty of beauty in the garden, with some lovely blooms coming through from our strawflowers, statice and Billy Buttons! 💛
These three are absolute stars when it comes to vase life, and I’ve had lovely feedback that they’ve lasted 3+ weeks in the vase! 🌼
Cosmos is still hanging in there despite the heat, so I’ll keep these beauties in rotation for as long as they can handle it. 🌸
Meanwhile, the celosia and marigolds are absolutely loving the warmer weather and powering ahead! There are more varieties of these vibrant blooms to come, and I can’t wait to share them with you. 🧡🌺

New flower coming 😍
Super excited about this new flower crop, Scabiosa, which I have in black night (pic) and lavender.
Main crop is a few weeks away but first few are ready to test there vase life 😁
