Most people think of cleansing as the simplest part of their skincare.

I don’t.

In August, when cold air, indoor heating and hotter showers are already asking more of the skin, the way you wash your face matters more than you might think.

I prefer cool to lukewarm water, a gentle cleanser and enough time to actually massage it over the skin rather than rushing through it. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry, then follow with hydration while the skin is still slightly damp.

And one thing I never recommend is chasing that “squeaky clean” feeling.

Your skin should feel clean afterwards, not tight.

It sounds simple, because it is. But good skin is often built on getting the small things right consistently.
