Meltdowns are not naughty, bad or a reflection of your parenting.

They are nervous system events. Children are not born able to regulate emotions.

This is where you come in, no instructions, just Calm and present. They need to borrow your calm until their nervous system has understood it is SAFE.

I teach this in my clinic everyday. If you want to know more...follow me (my calm guide is in the Bio)😊

I thought if I just got discipline RIGHT, the meltdowns would stop.

I tried firmer. I tried gentler. I tried consequence charts, reward jars, the naughty corner, and one sticker system so elaborate it required a spreadsheet.

None of it worked. And I blamed myself every single time.

🌼 Here's what I now know — from my clinic, from the research, and from being a mum in the trenches myself:

Discipline has almost NOTHING to do with meltdowns.

I know. Stay with me.

🧠 When your child is in full meltdown, their prefrontal cortex (the thinking, reasoning, 'I can make good choices' part of the brain) is offline. Completely. What you're watching isn't a child choosing to misbehave. It's a nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do when it feels unsafe.

You cannot discipline a nervous system into feeling safe.

It's like giving someone swimming lessons while they're drowning. The lesson isn't the problem. The timing is.

In my clinic, I call this the Two-Storey Brain. The downstairs brain which is the survival, emotion, fight-or-flight has taken over the whole house. Until we help them get back upstairs, nothing lands. Not the consequence. Not the calm voice. Not the sticker.

The moment I started working with the nervous system FIRST before any teaching, any limit-setting, any 'we don't behave like that in this family' everything changed.

For my clients. For my own girls.

Not because discipline disappeared. But because it finally had a nervous system to land on.

👍 You are not failing at discipline. You were just never told what was actually happening.

Saying 'calm down' to a dysregulated child is like telling someone drowning to just... swim better.

It has never worked. Not once. Not for your kid, not for mine, not for the 7-year-old I see in my clinic whose mum has been saying it — lovingly, desperately — for three years.

Here's what's actually happening in that moment.

🧠 When your child is mid-meltdown, their downstairs brain — the survival brain — has completely taken over. The thinking brain, the part that can hear you and respond to reason? Offline. Completely. Telling them to 'calm down' right now is sending a message to a room with nobody in it.

So the words don't land. They can't.

What lands is YOU.

🌼 Your nervous system is the most powerful tool in that room — not your words, not your strategy, not the consequence you've been holding in reserve. Children are literally wired to borrow calm from a regulated adult nearby. It's called co-regulation, and it's not a parenting philosophy. It's neuroscience.

This is the first thing I teach inside the CALM Method — and it's the thing that changes everything, usually within the first week.

Not because it's magic.

Because it's biology.

You don't need more words. You need to regulate first.

That monday morning where they get dressed without a fight? It starts here — not with a better threat, but with a calmer you.

For many parents, it starts long before the anxiety does... You rehearse conversations, avoid triggers, plan escape routes, and hope today will be easier than yesterday.

That's exhausting. But it doesn't have to stay this way. Anxiety is treatable, and both you and your child deserve more than just getting through the day.

This is where hypnotherapy can be so powerful.
Children naturally have incredible imaginations, and hypnotherapy gently uses that strength to help them:

✨ Feel calm in situations that once felt overwhelming.
✨ Build confidence from the inside out.
✨ Quiet the constant worry.
✨ Sleep more peacefully.
✨ Learn that they are safe, capable, and stronger than anxiety tells them.

It's not about "controlling" your child or making them someone they're not.

It's about helping their brain create new pathways so calm becomes easier to access.

I've watched children who once couldn't walk into school independently become confident, resilient kids who believe in themselves again.

Because anxiety doesn't have to write the rest of their story.

These 3 things that people say about child anxiety give me the ICK....

💛They are just naughty - Meltdowns, avoidance, school refusal, anger are signs their nervous system isn't coping.

💛It's the parents fault - Anxiety can be caused by such a wide array of reasons that bringing shame and guilt to the parents of anxious children is most unhelpful when we should be supporting them.

💛They will outgrow it - untreated anxiety impacts school attendance, self esteem, confidence, family life and overall wellbeing.

💛Children shouldn't have to wait to outgrow anxiety. With the right support we can help them grow through it

5 signs your child is stuck in survival mode

💛 They can't tell you why they're anxious

💛 They are fine at home and have a meltdown out in public

💛 They worry about things that "shouldnt" be a big deal

💛 Mornings are a war zone

💛 They are so hard on themselves after an anxious moment. "Why am I so stupid"

Most approaches to help your child only go halfway, breathing, reward charts, talk therapy. BUT.....none of that reaches the subconscious where the anxiety is programmed.

This is what Hypnotherapy does:
💫Access the subconscious mind directly
💫Rewires fear based responses at the root
💫Is gentle and child friendly
💫Creates lasting change, not just a bandaid

When kids feel anxious, their brain hits the
🛑Panic Button -flooding their body with stress hormones that make them want to fight, flee or freeze.

Here's whats happening in their little body👇

💫Their brain (amygdala) detects a threat
💫Stress hormones (cortisol &adrenaline) floods the body
💫Heart races.
💫Tummy aches
💫Muscles tighten
💫Big emotions take over because their thinking brain is offline.

Your child doesn't need to calm down.
They need to feel safe enough to come back down💛
