King Pink in the wild!

It's royalty in the garden, but have you ever seen King Pink in its natural habitat?

Protea cynaroides is found throughout the Western Cape region of South Africa. The area is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. Protea cynaroides often produces large pink inflorescences, but can also produce white or red flowers.

Here is King Pink growing on the slopes of Table mountain near Cape Town, South Africa. A truly amazing plant to see in nature.

Have you spotted any Proteaceae in nature? Let us know in the comments!

Some shots of Leucadendron Silver Tree, at home in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. In the wild, it grows on the slopes of the majestic Table Mountain. The mountain is often shrouded in low clouds, creating a dramatic background for the silvery foliage.

For the love of Proteas, we've traveled through South Africa to see plants in the wild. Are you keen to see more Proteas in the wild? Let us know in the comments...

Leucadendron Silver Tree is prized for it's luminous, textural foliage. It is one of the tallest Leucadendron species, growing up to 10 meters in height.

Here's a peak at the first flowers from the tree planted in our garden.

A fun fact about Leucadendrons is that it's dioecious, meaning the male and female flowers develop on different plants. The flowers we've seen in the garden are from a male plant.

For the love of wildflowers...

We've been in Western Australia recently, getting some inspiration from the beautiful palette of wildflowers this spring. Western Australia is a hotspot for Proteaceae plants, from Banksias to Grevilleas, Hakeas to Isopogons. We're also taking in some inspiration for our growing Wildflower collection, loving the pastel tones of Pimeleas, Dasymallas and bright pops of Lechenaultias we saw on the way.

Which is your favourite Western Australia Wildflower? Let us know in the comments 🌸
