As skin ages, it loses collagen and elasticity — which means texture changes, fine lines deepen, and pigment retention becomes less predictable. Uneven skin (sun damage, thinning, scarring) affects how evenly the pigment sits, so getting smooth, consistent coverage isn't always possible.

This is why technique matters SO much on mature clients — proper depth, pressure, and pigment choice all need to be adjusted.
