Somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that good work would be enough.

I'd post a few photos.
People would find me.
Bookings would roll in.

When they didn't, I quietly walked away.

It wasn't until we lost our son, Joseph, that I understood why photography mattered so deeply to me. My camera stopped being about creating beautiful images and became about preserving the people, moments and seasons that can never be recreated.

That purpose changed everything.

Not overnight.
Not because business suddenly became easy.
But because I finally had a reason that was bigger than the hard days.

I was talking to a friend who has just had her first baby. She was so quick to offer up all of those tiny newborn clothes, and it made me realise something about myself.

Not because she wasn't sentimental. We all hold on to memories differently.

But I am the kind of person who keeps the concert ticket stubs. The hospital wristbands. The first haircut. The little things that transport you straight back to a season of your life.

For me, holding on to something is a way of saying
*I don't want to forget this*

And that's exactly why photography means so much to me.

Two years ago, Hartley was one of my very first model calls - a fresh 48 session.

I still remember photographing this tiny newborn, curled up in his mum's arms, he arrived a few weeks early and was so teeny tiny, but full of spark.

A few days ago, he stood in front of my camera with long blonde hair, bright eyes and the sweetest little personality. And that same spark.

It's one of the things I love most about this work.

I don't just get to document a single moment, I get to watch families grow, children change, and little personalities unfold over the years.

Looking back at where my photography was then compared to now is pretty special too. Not because those first images weren't special, they absolutely were, but because they remind me that growth happens one session at a time.

Every family who trusted me in those early days gave me the chance to learn, to improve and to keep building something I truly love.
