The 4 main types of retinoids (be sure to read my last message)
• Retinyl esters – The gentlest option, ideal for beginners and sensitive skin.
• Retinol – Needs to be converted by the skin before becoming active, making it effective while still being well tolerated.
• Retinal (retinaldehyde) – Requires fewer conversion steps, so it generally works faster than retinol.
• Tretinoin – A prescription-strength retinoid that acts directly on retinoid receptors for maximum potency. This has been absolutely trending on TikTok but I disagree that so many people should be using it when their skin has barely managed a lighter form! I’ll post more on this topic
Remember: stronger doesn’t always mean better. The best retinoid is the one your skin can tolerate consistently.
