Microneedling creates a controlled trauma to stimulate your natural healing response.
The trauma wound healing response has 3 stages
1. Inflammatory phase (Day 1 to 5) Immune cells and platelets rush to the micro-channels to clean debris and release growth factors.
2. Proliferative phase (Day 2 to 21) The skin rebuilds itself as fibroblasts work to form a new extracellular matrix. New collagen is produced, and the epidermis grows new cells.
3. Maturation Phase (20 days+) New collagen is remodelled, flattening scars and smoothing texture and fine lines.
While controlled micro-injuries lead to skin rejuvenation, excessive trauma (eg from improper needle depth, rolling devices or incorrect technique) can cause adverse side effects like severe inflammation, pigmentation and scarring.
