All of it has shaped me.

but the start of the year ‘25’ was an experience i’ll never forget — for all the wrong reasons.

for the first time, i really understood what it feels like to be on the other side of education.

to question yourself.
to feel unsupported.
to feel like your experience isn’t valued.
to wonder whether your knowledge, passion and years in the industry actually count for anything.

and that’s a pretty confronting place to be when you genuinely care about education and the hairdressing industry.

i’m not interested in shaming anyone. but i also won’t pretend it didn’t affect me.

because it did.

and honestly? it changed me.

it made me very clear about the kind of educator I am today!

i don’t just show you what to do.

i want you to understand why.

why you section.
why you foil.
why you choose a particular technique.
why it works
why it doesn’t

because being able to do something isn’t necessarily the same as understanding it.

and having a qualification isn’t necessarily the same as feeling ready to stand behind the chair.

30+ years in this industry and i’m still in the salon.

still working with real clients.
still learning.
still furthering my own education.

and i’m incredibly proud to share what i know with the next generation of hairdressers.

but it has made me wonder…

are we getting education right in our industry?

A little example of a colour correction. Not done in 1 session but lots of sessions .. living with it and enjoying the process.

Hairdressers say all the time it’s a process.

What they mean - The SCIENCE
• Bleach removes artificial black pigment layer by layer—not all at once.
• As the dark colour breaks down, the underlying warm pigments are revealed:

• Rushing the process can compromise the hair’s strength and cause breakage.
• Multiple sessions allow the hair to recover while safely lifting to the next stage.
• Healthy blonde isn’t about getting there in one day—it’s about preserving the integrity of your hair every step of the way.

Let’s be real, hairdressers...FEELS & RANT

Client: “I understand it’s going to take multiple sessions to remove black box dye and get me blonde.”
Me: “Perfect! My priority is protecting the integrity of your hair. We can absolutely get there, but it’s a journey, not a one-day miracle.”

First appointment: The toughest session is done. We’ve safely lifted black dye, kept the hair healthy, and created the foundation for future blonde appointments.

Client: “I’m not blonde. I want a refund.”
🤯 Wait... what?

We didn’t agree you’d be blonde in one session. We agreed it would take multiple sessions.
Hair isn’t magic. We don’t have a wand that erases black box dye in a few hours without destroying your hair. Every professional colour correction is about balancing the result with the health of your hair.
If I rushed the process just to make you blonde in one visit, I’d likely be sending you home with compromised, damaged hair—and that’s not something any ethical hairdresser should do.
So when we say “it’s a process,” we genuinely mean it.

Trust the plan. Trust the professional. Healthy blonde is always better than damaged blonde.

To my fellow hairdressers... I get so frustrated with a client blaming the Hairdresser … believe me I get it they want to be blonde from black box dye ! Don’t bag each other! Support them when they did the right thing and looked after the integrity of the clients hair.

Clients you need to be realistic !

Firstly, thank you. Your continued support and loyalty mean more than you know, and I’m so grateful to spend my days looking after such wonderful clients.

Since returning to the salon this year, I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of clients who have reached out to come back onto my books. Because of your incredible support, my books are now closed to new clients.

Current wait times are approximately:
✨ Colour appointments – 13+ weeks
✂️ Trim appointments – 6+ weeks

If you haven’t already booked your next appointment, please understand that availability is now very limited. I’ll always do my best to accommodate you where I can, but I may not be able to offer preferred dates or last-minute appointments.

My regular salon days are Wednesday to Friday, depending on availability. Occasionally, I may open appointments on other days around my training and other commitments, but these are limited.

If my schedule doesn’t suit yours, I completely understand. Thank you for respecting the balance I’ve created for both my clients and my family.
