Did you know that your skin is our body's largest organ?

➡️If you removed your kin off your body and weighed it, on average it would weigh approximately 5kg.

➡️If you stretched it our when it was off your body it would measure approximately 2 metres square.

➡️Newly formed cells in the stratum basale move superficially through the epidermal layers.

➡️The further the cells move through the epidermal layers the more and more keratin they accumulate, which is the process of keratinisation.

➡️Ultimately the keratinised cells undergo apoptosis and eventually are sloughed off and replaced by underlying cells that are being keratinised.

➡️These hardened cells in the outer layers of the epidermis is just one defense mecanism to help our body maintain homeostasis.
