TIGHT CALVES? SHIN SPLINTS? PLANTAR FASCIITIS?

Sydney Marathon is coming… and if your training kilometres are adding up, now is the time to start looking after those calves.

Your calves work incredibly hard when you run, and tight or overloaded calf muscles can contribute to discomfort through the lower leg and foot.

At JSM, this is something we see ALL the time during marathon season.

💆‍♀️ Sports massage can help reduce muscular tightness, improve mobility and support your recovery between those big training sessions.

My runner reminders as race day approaches:

🏃 Build your kilometres gradually
💧 Hydrate and fuel properly
😴 Prioritise sleep and recovery days
🦵 Keep up your strength and mobility work
💆‍♀️ Don’t wait until race week to book your massage!

And remember — shin pain, persistent Achilles pain or plantar heel pain shouldn’t simply be pushed through or aggressively massaged. If pain is persistent, worsening or affecting the way you run, get it properly assessed.

You’ve put too much work into your training to arrive at the start line with unhappy legs. 😂

Sydney Marathon runners — BOOK NOW. Our clinic gets extremely busy during marathon season, so get those recovery sessions into the diary early.

Train smart. Recover well. Look after those legs.

One of the most important parts of my job has absolutely nothing to do with massage. 🤍

It’s looking after the people who look after you.

I’ve been sitting down individually with my beautiful JSM team for our KPI catch-ups.

Yes, we talk about performance, client care, rebooking, goals and how everyone is progressing…

But the most important part for me is simply checking in.

How are you going?
Are you happy?
What do you need from me?
What can I do better as your boss and as a leader?

After more than 30 years of running Jackie’s Sports Massage, I can tell you I definitely haven’t always got leadership right. 😂

I’ve made mistakes. I’ve learnt A LOT. And I’m still learning.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt is that a successful business is never built by one person.

It’s built by a team who feel valued, supported, respected and listened to.

And when my therapists are happy and thriving, that positive energy flows through the clinic and ultimately into the experience we give every client who walks through our doors.

Great team culture is everything.

Sometimes being a good leader isn’t about talking…

It’s about shutting up for a minute and listening. 😂🤍

So incredibly proud of this beautiful team and the culture we continue to build together.

CITY2SURF RUNNERS… HOW ARE THOSE LEGS THIS MORNING? 😂🏃‍♀️

Congratulations!! You did it. 🏅

Whether you smashed a PB, walked half of Heartbreak Hill, ran with your mates or simply made it across that Bondi finish line — I hope you had the BEST day.

Now comes the part I’m always talking about…

RECOVERY.

After a big run, your body has worked hard. Your calves, quads, hamstrings, glutes and hips may all be reminding you of that this morning. 😂

A few of my favourite post-race recovery tips:

💧 Rehydrate properly and replace those fluids.
🥗 Eat well — your body needs good nutrition to repair.
🚶 Keep gently moving rather than spending the entire day on the couch.
😴 Prioritise sleep — this is when so much of your recovery happens.
🧘 Gentle mobility and stretching can feel amazing, but don’t force sore muscles.
💆‍♀️ And when your body is ready, a good recovery massage can help ease that post-race tightness and get you moving comfortably again.

One important thing — normal post-race muscle soreness is one thing. Sharp, significant or worsening pain is another. Don’t try to massage your way through an injury. Get it assessed.

We’ve looked after Sydney runners for more than 30 years, and race recovery is one of my favourite times in the clinic. There’s always such a great buzz after a big event.

So congratulations again, City2Surf runners.

You’ve done the training.
You’ve conquered Heartbreak Hill.
You’ve crossed that finish line.

Now give your body some love. It earned it. 🤍

We’re here all week for your recovery treatments. Jump online and find a time that suits you.

Why has everyone suddenly started talking about lymphatic massage? 🤍

I feel like lymphatic massage is everywhere at the moment — but it’s definitely not just another wellness trend.

Your lymphatic system plays an important role in moving lymph fluid through the body and supporting normal immune function and fluid balance.

Unlike the deeper remedial and sports massage we’re known for, lymphatic massage is generally light, slow and rhythmic. The aim isn’t to dig into tight muscles — it’s a completely different style of treatment.

People often seek lymphatic massage to support:

✨ Fluid movement and swelling management
✨ Post-exercise recovery
✨ A feeling of heaviness or puffiness
✨ Relaxation and nervous-system downregulation
✨ Recovery when lymphatic drainage has been recommended as part of their care

And one thing that surprises people is how gentle the treatment can be. More pressure isn’t always better!

I love that we’re able to offer different styles of bodywork at JSM because every body walks through our doors needing something different.

If you’ve been hearing about lymphatic massage and wondering what all the fuss is about, maybe it’s time to experience one for yourself.

Jump online to book, or give our reception team a call if you’re unsure which treatment is right for you.

Have a beautiful Friday everyone. 🤍

🏃‍♀️ I’ll be cheering you on all the way to Bondi this Sunday!

City2Surf is nearly here, and after looking after thousands of runners over the years, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite recovery tips before race day.

🤍 Trust your training. There’s no need to squeeze in one last hard run.

💧 Stay hydrated all week, not just on race morning.

😴 Prioritise your sleep. Your body does some of its best recovery while you’re resting.

🧘 Stretch, stay mobile and listen to your body if something feels tight.

🍌 Eat well and fuel your body with foods that make you feel your best.

And finally…

🏅 Enjoy every single kilometre.

Whether you’re chasing a personal best, running for a charity close to your heart, tackling your very first City2Surf or simply soaking up the incredible atmosphere, crossing that finish line is something to be proud of.

We’ll be here before the race to help you prepare, and after the race to help you recover.

Good luck to every runner this weekend. I’ll be cheering every one of you on. 🤍

Happy Friday! 🤍

By Friday, most of us aren’t just physically tired. We’re mentally exhausted too.

We’ve been sitting at desks, rushing between meetings, training before or after work, juggling family, emails and life.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your body isn’t another workout…

It’s giving yourself permission to slow down for an hour.

Massage isn’t an indulgence.

It’s maintenance.

Looking after your body now often means fewer aches, better sleep and feeling ready to enjoy your weekend instead of simply recovering from your week.

If you’ve been saying, “I really need a massage…”

Take this as your sign.

Have a beautiful Friday everyone.

🤍 Jackie
