Colour is one of the biggest factors in creating a beautiful lip blush result.

For this client, the goal wasn’t to create a bold lipstick effect—it was to restore a soft, healthy-looking flush that complemented her natural features.

Because she experiences reduced circulation to her lips, I wanted to carefully select pigments that would enhance her natural lip tone while keeping the overall result soft and balanced.

For this treatment, I used all World Famous Tattoo Ink pigments:
• 60% Prince Albert Pink
• 30% Peach
• 10% Flying Pig Pink

Choosing the right colour isn’t just about picking a pretty pink. It’s about considering your client’s natural lip tone, undertones, existing pigmentation and the healed result we’re aiming to achieve.

1. “Lip Bush looks like you’re wearing lipstick 24/7”

This one’s my personal favourite because it’s one I hear all the time. In reality, lip blush heals 30–50% softer than it looks on the day of your appointment.

As a lip blush artist, less is always more. The goal isn’t to tattoo lipstick onto your lips—it’s about creating a soft, natural result that’s customised to your goals, whether that’s barely-there or a little more defined.

2. “If I’ve had lip filler, I can’t get lip blush”

In most cases, you absolutely can. I just recommend waiting until your filler has fully settled. Previous filler (or recently dissolved filler) can affect how pigment heals, so timing is important.

3. “The darker the pigment, the longer it lasts”

Pigment retention isn’t determined by how dark the colour is. Your skin, lifestyle, aftercare, immune response and your artists’ technique all play a much bigger role in your healed result.

4. “Lip blush is sooooo f*@ painful”

This one surprises almost everyone. Most clients describe lip blush as more uncomfortable than painful, and some feel almost nothing at all. We use topical numbing throughout the appointment to keep you as comfortable as possible, and a good artist will always work in a way that minimises unnecessary trauma to your lips.

5. “Lip blush is only for pale lips”

Clients with darker lips or hyperpigmentation can actually be great candidates for lip blush. The difference isn’t whether they can have the treatment—it’s how we approach it.

6. “I don’t need a 6-8 week touch up”

Your first appointment lays the foundation. Your touch up session allows me to reinforce colour and make small refinements once your lips have fully healed. I always say less is more at your first session because we can build on your result at your touch-up. Trust me… you’ll be back.

The part everyone misses… 👇🏽

This wasn’t a colour transformation. It was a shape reconstruction.

With this client, the priority wasn’t changing her lip colour—it was restoring the shape of her cupid’s bow.

Loss of definition can happen for a number of reasons, including ageing, repeated lip filler, dissolving filler, previous trauma or scarring, or simply natural anatomy.

Using lip blush, I subtly reconstructed the cupid’s bow and refined the border to create a more balanced, defined shape without looking overdone.

Every set of lips is different. Some need colour correction, some need neutralisation, and some—like these—need shape reconstruction first. That’s why every treatment is customised, not copied.

Lip neutralisation is colour theory in real life… let’s talk about it.

Every set of lips has different underlying pigmentation, which is why pigment selection should always be customised.

This client had hyperpigmentation, particularly around the borders of her lips (see slide 3 – didn’t have a better before picture ). If I had implanted her target colour straight away, those cooler undertones could have caused the healed result to look ashy and made the hyperpigmentation appear more noticeable.

For this neutralisation, I used World Famous Tattoo Ink Bora Bora Peach (a bright peachy orange) to help balance those cooler tones before layering the target colour. Neutralising first creates a more even foundation, allowing the final colour to heal more true to tone.

No two lips are the same, which is why every lip neutralisation treatment starts with assessing the natural pigmentation—not just choosing a colour. ❤️‍🔥

POV: Pink wasn’t the first step… 👀

Before we could create her dream lip blush, we first needed to neutralise some of the natural pigmentation and cooler undertones in her lips.

Fun fact: not every client needs full lip neutralisation. Sometimes, subtle colour correction is all that’s needed to create a beautiful, balanced healed result.

For this treatment, I first used World Famous Tattoo Ink Bora Bora Peach (orange pigment) to neutralise the cooler pigmentation. Once the tones were balanced, I layered a soft peachy-pink base colour to begin building her final lip blush colour.

That’s the science behind lip blush—it’s not about choosing a pink and hoping for the best. It’s about understanding colour theory and creating a custom plan for your unique lips.

Every pair of lips is different. Every treatment is customised. And the most beautiful healed results always start with the right foundation.

June reminded me that growth isn’t always loud.
