If I’m completely honest…

When I bought the salon, I had absolutely no idea how to price a business.

I knew hair.
I knew people.
I knew how to work hard.

What I didn’t know was how to build a sustainable salon.

Like a lot of owners, I inherited pricing, inherited systems, looked at what other salons were charging and thought…

“Yep… that seems about right.” 😂

Turns out, “about right” isn’t actually a business strategy.

Over the last three years I’ve learnt (sometimes the hard way) that every salon has different wages, rent, product costs, service times, goals and teams. Copying someone else’s pricing doesn’t magically make your business healthy.

So this year we went right back to the beginning.

With Mum leading the numbers (she deserves a medal… and honestly should sell this spreadsheet to other salon owners 😂), we rebuilt every single service from the ground up.

Every appointment now has intention behind it.

Not guesswork.
Not vibes.
Not “hopefully this works.”

Just facts.

Some prices increased.
Some barely changed.
Some even came down.

Because the goal was never to simply increase prices.

The goal was alignment.

Alignment between our services, our team, our clients and the future of Sol Rae.

The biggest change wasn’t the pricing…

It was me finally learning to stop being a hairdresser trying to run a business, and becoming a business owner who gets to do the hair she loves.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported us while we’ve learnt, grown and evolved over the last three years. We genuinely wouldn’t be here without you, and we’re so excited for where Sol Rae goes next. 🧡
