SkinFirm Cosmetic Clinic
Evidence-based skin treatments backed by science. Personalised plans. Professional care. Real results.
Acne is complex, which is why I rarely rely on just one treatment.
One of my favourite combinations is Laser Genesis followed by SkinPen microneedling.
Laser Genesis gently heats the skin to calm inflammation, reduce redness, and create a healthier environment within the follicle. Microneedling then stimulates collagen, helps remodel acne scarring, and enhances the pe*******on of targeted ingredients that regulate oil production and support skin repair.
Current research also suggests we don’t need to worry about microneedling “spreading” Cutibacterium acnes. The bacteria already lives deep within the hair follicle, and acne is driven by a combination of excess oil, clogged follicles, inflammation, and bacterial imbalance—not simply bacteria sitting on the skin’s surface.
When we target multiple pathways at once, we often achieve better, longer-lasting results than relying on a single treatment alone.
Spider veins are often only part of the picture.
One of the most common feeding veins is a reticular vein located in the popliteal region (behind the knee). These veins sit just beneath the surface and can supply blood to the smaller spider veins on the calf and even the thigh. When pressure builds within these reticular veins, the tiny vessels they feed can become enlarged and more visible.
This is why assessing the underlying venous network is so important. Rather than only treating the spider veins you can see, identifying and treating an underlying feeding reticular vein can often improve overall clearance and help achieve a more complete result.
Not every spider vein is fed by a vein behind the knee, but it’s one of the most common areas we assess during a consultation.
For years, active acne was considered a contraindication to microneedling because it was thought to spread Cutibacterium acnes. As our understanding of acne has evolved, so has our approach to treating it.
We now know that Cutibacterium acnes already resides deep within the hair follicle. Acne isn’t caused by the bacteria alone—it’s a complex condition involving altered oil production, follicular blockage, bacterial overgrowth and inflammation.
For the right client, microneedling can help create a healthier follicular environment while enhancing the pe*******on of targeted ingredients that regulate oil production, calm inflammation and support healthier skin.
This doesn’t mean every person with acne is a candidate for microneedling. The key is choosing the right treatment, at the right stage, for the right skin.
There isn’t one “perfect” serum for everyone, because there isn’t one type of skin.
This is why I love Universkin. Every serum is formulated specifically for the individual sitting in front of me, based on their skin concerns, skin health and treatment goals.
In this particular case, the morning formula focuses on calming inflammation, reducing pigmentation and regulating oil production, while the evening formula supports collagen production, skin renewal and barrier repair.
One of my biggest goals with this client was to regulate oil production without over-exfoliating. By carefully selecting ingredients such as retinol, niacinamide and zinc, we can help improve congestion while still respecting the skin barrier.
Personalised skincare isn’t about using more products, it’s about using the right ingredients for your skin.
GLP-1 medications have been a game changer for many people, helping improve health and supporting significant weight loss.
One topic that’s becoming more common in clinic is the effect that rapid weight loss can have on the skin.
In this conversation, we’re discussing why changes such as reduced facial volume, skin laxity and dehydration can occur, and why understanding these changes is an important part of the journey.
Our goal is always to educate and help you better understand your skin, so you know what to expect and how to support it along the way.
Safe to say…we are Gigglers now!
When your industry ends up on one of the biggest podcasts… of course you’re going to watch it.
Hannah Berner’s TMJ story had us laughing, but it also sparked a great conversation. It was a reminder that even common treatments can have uncommon side effects, and why facial anatomy, technique and honest conversations about risks matter.
One thing I love about working in this industry is that we’re constantly learning. Whether it’s a clinical study, a conference, or a viral podcast, every conversation is an opportunity to become a better practitioner.
Did anyone else watch it?

Active acne deserves more than a one-size-fits-all approach.
When the skin is inflamed, the goal isn’t to be as aggressive as possible, it’s to reduce the inflammation driving the breakouts while protecting the skin barrier.
Laser Genesis is one of my favourite treatments for inflammatory acne because it works beneath the surface to calm redness, support the skin’s healing response, and improve overall skin quality, all with no downtime.
Every acne journey is different, which is why treatment should always be tailored to what your skin needs. For many clients, combining the right in-clinic treatments with a personalised home-care routine delivers the best long-term results.
If you’re struggling with persistent inflammatory acne, book a consultation and let’s create a treatment plan that’s right for your skin.
Rosacea is so much more than redness. It’s a sign that the skin barrier is compromised and inflammation is driving the condition.
This client came to me after relying on antibiotics to help manage her rosacea. With her doctor’s guidance, she was eventually able to transition away from them, and our focus shifted to building healthier, more resilient skin.
Her treatment plan included three Laser Genesis treatments to calm inflammation, three Limelight IPL treatments to reduce diffuse redness and visible vessels, and a barrier-first home care routine with Fillmed HAB5 Hydra Serum and Recovery Cream. The Fillmed Hyaluronic Acid Mask and consistent use of an Omnilux LED mask also played an important role in restoring hydration and supporting the skin’s healing process.
Rosacea isn’t something we simply “fix”—it’s something we manage. By combining evidence-based treatments with the right skincare, we can reduce flare-ups, strengthen the skin barrier, and help skin become calmer and more resilient over time.
Every rosacea journey is different, which is why every treatment plan I create is personalised to the individual.
