1. Are they using new files and buffers for every client at every appointment? These are single-use items only! (Look for signs of wear on the nail files or sanding bits.)
2. Have you been given a thorough consultation? Are you being asked questions around your work, lifestyle and overall health? (This is an imperative part of providing appropriate care for your nails because not all products are suitable for all nails.)
3. Are your nails being properly assessed at each appointment? (We are trained to recognise potential issues and contraindicators.)
4. Products matter! Can they answer questions about what they use? Have they done their research? (You should always be encouraged to ask questions without judgement.)
5. Is the salon clean? Are the desk, chair and tools being cleaned, disinfected and/or sterilised after every use? (Following strict hygiene and infection control guidelines is a must!)
6. Your nails are an investment. Are you being offered help with aftercare? Being given support or advice around maintaining your nails and their overall health? (We want your nails to be the best they can be!)

The most common ones are down to your aftercare routine. So let’s talk about it.
❗️Having good aftercare practices is a crucial part of ensuring your nails not only last longer, but that your natural nails can actually support the enhancements safely without damage.
💪🏼 My top aftercare tips for clients is as follows:

1. Cuticle oil! The heavy lifting this product does for your overall nail health is insane. It aids with skin hydration and keeping your skin and nail beds in a healthier condition. This in turn helps to produce healthier stronger nails that are better able to support anything you have on your nails.

2. Wear gloves when cleaning, gardening or for any diy projects. Gloves protect your hands and nails from many risks. From chemical exposure through to simply stopping a nail from being chipped/ruined, gloves are a quick and simple way to help protect your nails.

3. Don’t pick at your nails. If you find some lifting has happened, please leave it alone. Reach out to your Nail Tech for help if it’s really driving you mad or getting caught on things. Picking it will cause more lifting and damage your nail plates. You can try filing it down to minimise/remove the lifted product, just don’t pick at it.

4. Never use your nails as tools. This is not only a sure fire way to ruin the enhancements, but it can also cause injuries. If an injury occurs, it can affect whether or not you can have your nails done at your next appointment. Some damage can even be a permanent trauma to your nails.
Treat them like the jewels they are and protect them. The risk simply isn’t worth it!

➡️ Breaking this habit can feel impossible at times. BUT with the right support and strategies, it can be done!

💅🏽 When this lovely client came to see me, she had been living with a life long nail biting and picking habit. She hid her hands constantly and was more than ready for a change!
I was so amazed at the fact that, even though she had been turned down by other Techs and felt vulnerable, she kept trying to find help. It takes a lot of inner strength for a person to do that and I was more than willing to do what I could to help her and her nails!
