_Aug 1, 1838. Freedom._
This evening, as Emancipation Day comes to a close in Barbados, we pause to remember...
Before that date, there was Bussa.
In 1816, Bussa led one of the largest slave rebellions in the Caribbean â right here in Barbados. It didnât win freedom that year, but it shook the system. That spirit of resistance is why âapprenticeshipâ ended 2 years early in 1838.
Emancipation wasnât just given. It was fought for.
From the fields our ancestors worked, to the drums, the dance, and the words we share today â this is how far weâve come.
At Spa Holistic we give thanks for the ancestors who fought, endured, and planted the seeds for the peace and wellness we get to choose now.
May we honor them by resting, healing, and protecting our freedom.
With gratitude,
Team Spa Holistic đ

.. *The Damage of Dry, Cracked Heels & Why Regular Pedicures Matter*
Donât ignore those dry heels đ
*Whatâs actually happening:*
When heels get dry, the skin loses moisture and elasticity. That thick, rough buildup you, thatâs your body trying to protect itself from pressure and friction. But when it gets too thick, it cracks.
Cracked heels arenât just ârough skinâ:
- *Painful*: Deep cracks can hurt with every step
- *Risk of infection*: Open cracks let bacteria and fungus in
- *Bleeding*: In severe cases, cracks can bleed and make walking uncomfortable
- *Worse over time*: The drier it gets, the thicker and harder it becomes
*Why Regular Pedicures Are Important*
A professional pedicure isnât just about pretty toes. Itâs foot healthcare đ
*What a pedicure does:*
1. *Exfoliates dead skin* - Safely removes that thick, dry buildup before it cracks
2. *Hydrates deeply* - Professional masks + moisturizers restore moisture to the skin
3. *Improves circulation* - Massage helps with swelling and tired feet
4. *Prevents bigger problems* - Catching dryness early stops cracks, calluses, and infections
5. *Keeps feet smooth + healthy* - Look at that after! Soft, hydrated, and comfortable
Think of it like this: You get facials for your face and trims for your hair. Your feet carry you everywhere. They deserve the same care.
*Pro tip*: At-home foot care between pedicures matters too. Moisturize daily, wear socks to bed with cream, and donât go barefoot on rough surfaces.
Your feet shouldnât hurt. They should feel soft, smooth, and happy.
... Foods for your LIVER đ«¶
Your liver works 24/7 to detox, digest, and keep you energized. Feed it well and itâll love you back.
*Liver-supporting foods to add in:*
*Arugula* - Bitter greens help bile flow
*Coconut oil* - Easy-to-digest healthy fats
*Turmeric* - Anti-inflammatory + supports detox enzymes
*Radish* - Helps liver cleanse + supports digestion
*Lemon* - Vitamin C + liver alkalizing
Pro tip: Start your day with warm water + lemon, or add turmeric + coconut oil to meals for an easy boost.
Which one do you already eat? đ

Think of it like this: you service your car before it breaks down.
Do the same for your body.
Make recovery part of your routine, not just a reaction.
Your future self will thank you đ
-Care...*Start your morning with intention
A warm cup of rosemary tea first thing can be such a simple reset for the body. This herb has been used for generations, and drinking it on an empty stomach is a gentle way to support how you feel throughout the day.
The flyer breaks down some of the reasons people love making it part of their routine â from supporting circulation and liver health, to helping with inflammation, joint comfort, and even hair strength. Itâs also known for its calming properties, which makes it a nice alternative when you want something soothing but still beneficial.
Just steep a few fresh sprigs in hot water, let it sit, and sip slowly. Small habit, big impact.
