A silk press is a hairstyling technique used mainly on natural textured hair (especially curly or coily hair) to make it look silky, smooth, and straight without using chemical relaxers.
The goal is:
* Straight hair with movement and shine
* Keeping the hair lightweight (“silky”) instead of stiff or greasy
* Allowing the hair to later revert back to its natural curl pattern after washing
A good silk press should:
* Last about 1–2 weeks depending on humidity and maintenance
* Avoid heat damage when done properly
* Feel soft and bouncy, not weighed down
