When I started learning about skincare formulation, I discovered something important: creating good skincare isn't about using the most expensive ingredients. It's about understanding what you're putting into your products and why.

Here are 6 ingredients every skincare lover should know!

1. Glycerin – The hydration hero
It attracts water to help keep your skin hydrated. But the secret is using the right amount to avoid that sticky feeling!

2. Shea Butter – Deep nourishment
It softens the skin and helps reduce moisture loss. However, formulating with shea butter requires the right techniques to prevent grainy creams.

3. Squalane – Lightweight luxury
This emollient leaves skin feeling soft and smooth without the heavy, greasy feel of some oils. It's a wonderful addition to facial oils and moisturisers.

4. Panthenol (Vitamin B5) – Barrier support
It helps improve hydration and supports the skin barrier, making it useful in products for dry or uncomfortable skin.

5. Aloe Vera Juice – Soothing hydration
Loved for its soothing and moisturising properties. But remember, water-based skincare needs proper preservation and testing. Natural doesn't mean self-preserving!
