To all our valued clients due to Hurricane Ernesto we are going to have to close on Saturday. We hope everyone stays save.
15 August 2024 Hurricane Ernesto 6AM ADT Update
BWS continues to closely monitor the progress of Hurricane Ernesto, now about 553 nautical miles to the southwest of Bermuda.
A HURRICANE WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR BERMUDA
A Hurricane Warning means sustained winds of 64 knots or more are expected to affect Bermuda's marine area within 36 hours, associated with a tropical cyclone or a subtropical cyclone.
Hurricane Ernesto's track and timing has remained fairly consistent over the past few advisories giving higher confidence that no significant changes will take place. However, due to the size of Bermuda, any slight nudges to either the east or west may result in significantly different impacts. As such, all preparations should be completed by tomorrow if not completed already. Preparations may be affected by torrential rainfall forecast beginning tomorrow through the onset of Hurricane Ernesto. Localised flooding is likely.
Based on the latest advisory from the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center, who we are working with closely, we can expect:
Tropical storm force winds (34+ knots) to arrive between 3-5pm Friday.
Storm force winds (50+ knots) to arrive between 11pm Friday to 1am Saturday.
Hurricane force winds (65+ knots) to arrive between 4-6am Saturday.
Please note that these timings may change with subsequent advisories. It is too early to give timings for the cessation of winds and this will be provided in a subsequent update. Winds are currently forecast to peak 50-70 knots with gusts 80-90 knots. Stronger gusts are possible in squalls and in elevated and exposed areas.
Swells begin to increase with rip currents from tomorrow, with dangerous swells developing by Friday peaking near 30ft on Saturday.
The next update would be provided around 1pm tomorrow.
