BLESSED RAINY DAY

Billions of years ago, there lived a Buddha named Dipenkara. When he passed away, a statue of Buddha Dipenkara, known as Sangay Marmayzey, was newly constructed in an ocean, possibly the Indian Ocean, by the King of the Nagas, Luu Gyel Tsugna Rinchen, as a symbol of worship. Upon completing the construction, a rain of ambrosia, called Dhueetsi, descended upon the statue from the Karma Reekhee star in heaven, offered by the King of Devas, Lhai Gyelp Tshangpa, and Jajin.

This ambrosia possessed remarkable curative properties, and it is believed that all worldly elements and compounds acquired their medicinal qualities from this legendary star.

The Blessed Rainy Day commemorates this ancient rain, which is believed to reoccur annually, cleansing the world.

Dīpankara, meaning "Lamp bearer" in Sanskrit and Pali, is one of the Buddhas from the distant past, having lived on Earth a hundred thousand years ago. Buddhists believe in a succession of numerous Buddhas from the past, collectively known as the "Thousand Buddhas," each responsible for a life cycle. Dīpankara reached enlightenment long before Gautama Buddha, the historical Buddha. According to Buddhist traditions, there will be more Buddhas in the future, with Maitreya as the next Buddha.

In Chinese Buddhism, Dīpankara is honored as one of the many past Buddhas, along with Gautama and Maitreya, known as the "Buddhas of Three Times."

Blessed Rainy Day is a Bhutanese holiday that marks the end of the monsoon season. On this day, all natural water sources in the country are considered sanctifying, and people are encouraged to take outdoor baths to cleanse themselves of bad deeds, obstructions, defilements, and accumulated bad karma.

This year, on September 23rd, the auspicious dutchi will begin at 6:49 PM and last for 7 days. Make sure to face your Nam-Men (Sky Healer) direction based on your Parkha and take as many baths as possible.

Recite this prayer and mantra while taking a bath outside under these stars:
