》Make sure that your sections line up at the top of your head
》When you're pulling the front section behind your ear make sure that it's exactly where you want it to sit, otherwise the tension will be off when you clip it and it won't look smooth
》If the clip isnt very secure, make sure youre putting it in going straight back, not up. And slide it right along your scalp so you're getting it as tight as possible

There are LOTS of reasons—and most of them aren't your fault.
Long hair is old. That means it has more cumulative damage from things like brushing, washing, and just everyday wear and tear.
Plus the ends of your hair—whether we're talking about the ones at the bottom or the ends of your regrowth—are more vulnerable to damage because the cuticle is weakest there.
But here's the real problem:
Most of your ends actually get missed during a classic haircut because they're too high to be removed without taking off significant length.
So any ends that have already started to split?
They keep splitting. And splitting... and splitting.
Until BAM! You end up with gnarly split ends, just like this one.
So if split ends are inevitable, what can you even do about them?
Learn how to recognize what they look like. Examine your hair regularly. But most importantly, when you start to notice that there are lots of them, become your own advocate and book a split-end trim with someone who is willing to work with you to keep your hair healthy AND long.
Because here's what I really want you to take away:
The biggest mistake you can make is trusting a hairdresser who tells you, matter-of-factly, that you need to come in every X weeks.
Because they can't actually know that. No one can.
There is no universal expiration date on your haircut—contrary to industry standard beliefs.
And getting a haircut while your hair is still healthy will not stop it from splitting. It will, however, stop it from growing fast. All while keeping your stylist busy at your expense.
Everyone's hair is different. So someone who is truly qualified to be trusted with your crown, and has your best interest at heart, should NEVER be giving you one-size-fits-all (and frankly, manipulative) advice about how often you "need" a haircut.
Your hair isn't on their schedule.

Also, it should come in black. Why does Dyson never offer pure black? 😖
Ps.
I've only dropped this one like barely once, so it better last more than 5 years this time. We'll see.

Would you pay $700 for a blowdryer? (Even if it was high-end?)
Just because I'm still recovering from being sick, doesn't mean I can't record this little drop of knowledge for you ;)

The greatest fears and most common worries people have when bleaching their hair: damage + orange.
And for good reason—after all, you hear about it happening all the time, because using bleach wrong is unfortunately very easy to do.
Bleach is... quirky. And these quirks can easily mess up your results if they aren't accounted for.
But the real reason it's so common? These quirks are not actually taught in school (for some dumb reason). That's why there are so many horror stories out there about people's hair being totally ruined by bleach—even when professionals do it. So I don't blame you for being cautious when deciding if you should give it a try.
But you need to know that as long as the person you've picked to do your hair has done their homework, and put in the hours to develop a complete undstanding of the intricacies of bleach chemistry, the risk of ending up with damaged or orange hair go down to almost zero. Really. Because bleaching is just a skill, and like any skill, once you master it it's very easy to successfully do over and over again :)
And so there's truly nothing to be afraid of when you're in the hands of a genuine expert you found by doing your own homework 🫶

Your layers should not loose their shape from just growing an inch, that's kinda ridiculous. And evidence that your stylist doesn't know how to cut layers properly. Which is fine on its own—everyone has to learn. But it's not fair to ask you to spend more of your time and your money just so they can fix their own haircut over and over again. (And frankly, it's also unethical.)
If a haircut needs frequent maintenance -> it's just a bad haircut. So then why keep booking with the same person who did it so they can continue giving you more bad haircuts? 🤔 Kinda wild if you ask me.
Instead, go to someone else, even if their base price is higher. It will still save you in the long run when you don't have to get it done so often, and plus, in-between appointments you will have overall nicer hair. A win-win!
(This only applies to layered cuts—not bobs, pixies, or fades.)

Is it weird for a hairdresser to say that hair doesn't matter?
Probably.
Yes.
But hear me out 😅

Communication is not your responsibility as the client, it's theirs as the professional.
It is not your burden to bear, and the reality is, it sometimes doesn't even matter.
Because it's not always a communication issue, but a skill/attitude issue.
That's why I always recommend booking just a consultation first when you're going to a new stylist—as a risk-free way to assess your compatibility with them.
How can you tell?
Just show them your inspo photos and tell them what you want, to the best of your ability. If they can't take over from there—if you don't feel confident that they're understanding and respecting you—then yeah, there is nothing more you can do about it except go to someone else.

I never set out to critizise this industry.
I didn't even use social media much before I started posting.
But holy f*ck.
When I got here and witnessed the toxicity and zero integrity so many hairdressers have towards their clients (and was reminded that these aren't just a few outliers in other countries, they're common—I've personally known some throughout my career) I couldn't hold back.
Knowing that people in positions of power are out there taking advantage of/mistreating the very people they're meant to serve, pi**es me right off. And not only when hairdressers do it, but anyone—I just talk about hairdressers because that's my lane. But man, people who don't take their jobs seriously, lack integrity, or have lost sight of the big picture really make me wanna do something about it.
So yeah, when I see a post or comment that perpetuates that sh*t, I'm gonna fight back (with words not fists of course) and I don't think I will stop.
Because they are grown-ass adults who can make decisions for themselves, and know better than anyone else when they're ready to have their hair done again.
It's no one else's place to tell you when you're hair has grown too long, or your roots are too big. A suggestion can be fine, but then it's very important that you're also told WHY they gave that suggestion.
When a stylist tells you "this is what's best" you deserve to know what outcome it's best for. Because sometimes the reason actually isn't for you or your best interest. Sometimes it's to pressure you to align with their beauty standards, or keep their schedule booked at your expense.
That's why I don't use the "what's best" approach when discussing maintenance. I skip straight to why—so they have all the info they need to then make an informed decision on what's actually best for them.
INFORMED CONSENT FTW 👏
And the fact that my clients always eventually book again proves just how unnecessary it is to be controlling when you provide value.
