Before the schedules start and before clients arrive, there are moments like this — conversations in the hallway, laughter that carries, checking in on each other, sharing wins, supporting hard days.
Apex was built on the belief that health was never meant to happen in isolation.
Community matters.
Connection matters.
The energy of the people caring for others matters.
We are therapists.
We are professionals.
And over time, we’ve become something more — a community bonded with intention and united by the belief that helping people feel better starts with creating a place people want to be.
You can feel it when you walk through the door.
Welcome to Apex🤍
Walking. Running. Climbing. Jumping. Standing. It quietly absorbs and transfers force thousands of times a day.
Until one day… you notice it.
Pain, stiff, ache...
This treatment is Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) being applied to the Achilles tendon — a technique used to introduce targeted input to the surrounding tissue and support movement, load tolerance, and recovery.
When the Achilles becomes sensitive, stiff, or overloaded, the answer isn’t always to stop moving.
Often it’s understanding how to move and load it differently.
Treatment can help create change.
Strength helps hold onto it.
Consistency is what builds resilience.
Strong doesn’t always mean pushing harder.
Sometimes it means rebuilding trust in each step. 👣
8 Weeks Post-Op.
"You’re doing excellent."
Sometimes a few words from your surgeon can change everything.
After weeks of daily exercises, protecting the repair, managing pain, improving sleep, and wondering if you're doing enough, hearing that validation matters.
It doesn't mean the work is done.
It means the work is working.
Over the past 8 weeks, recovery has included:
• Daily rehabilitation exercises
• Massage therapy
Laser therapy
• Patience, consistency, and showing up on the days it felt slow
But recovery isn't only physical.
Healing comes with uncertainty.
"Am I progressing fast enough?"
"Is this discomfort normal?"
"Will I get back to where I was?"
Worry, hesitation, and doubt are common companions during recovery. They don't mean you're failing. They mean you're navigating something that doesn't come with a perfectly predictable timeline.
Today was a reminder that healing often happens before we can fully appreciate it.
The next phase begins now.
More movement. More strength. More trust in the process.
And perhaps most importantly, confidence that the shoulder—and the person attached to it—are moving in the right direction.
Tonight was one of those *pinch me* moments.
As I stood back and watched the room, I couldn't help but reflect on what has taken shape over the last few years through the Apex Health Hub.
We all need community. We all need people in our corner.
A few years ago, I encouraged my friend Richelle Mottosky to move her psychology practice into Apex. It was a gentle nudge from me, but a huge leap of faith and commitment from her. She said yes.
Since then, she has built something incredible—a collaborative network of compassionate, highly skilled mental health professionals who genuinely care about helping people do more than simply get through life. They want people to thrive.
Together, they've created a community where individuals can find support, therapy, tools, guidance, and a path toward showing up differently in their lives.
Watching this collective come together tonight reminded me that the best things are built through relationships, trust, and a shared desire to help others become the best version of themselves.
Thank you to Calgary Golf & Country Club for hosting such a beautiful evening, to Kenzie Grafton for bringing everyone together, and to every person who attended and contributed to the energy in the room.
The future is bright, and I'm so grateful to witness it.
While most people think of health care as something physical—muscles, joints, tissues—our nervous system is constantly responding to what we hear, feel, and experience.
These are some of the tools Dr. Aileen uses in her practice: sound vibration bowls and tuning forks. The gentle vibrations can be incorporated into treatment to create a unique sensory experience that encourages stillness, awareness, and deep relaxation.
For some people, it's the first time all day that their mind stops racing.
For others, it's simply a chance to be present.
The experience is difficult to explain—and much easier to feel.
Have you ever experienced sound-based therapy or worked with tuning forks? What was it like?
What's the most underrated part of a massage appointment?
The warm towel. 🔥
It's not the assessment.
It's not the treatment plan.
It's not even the massage itself.
Ask enough clients and many will tell you it's that moment when a perfectly heated towel is placed on tired muscles and the entire nervous system seems to say, "Okay, now we're relaxing."
This little cabinet works quietly behind the scenes, warming towels throughout the day so they're ready when needed.
Sometimes it's the smallest details that make the biggest difference.
Hot towel before or after treatment—which do you prefer?

Mechanics matter.
Professional massage therapy involves assessment, positioning, body mechanics, treatment planning, and techniques developed through hundreds of hours of training.
What looks simple is often anything but.
It's a bit like saying to a chef, "You must make five-course meals at home every night."
Sometimes the people closest to us get treatment.
Sometimes they get told to book an appointment like everyone else.
😉
Either way, effective treatment isn't about working harder—it's about knowing exactly what tissue you're treating, why you're treating it, and how to create meaningful change.
So let's settle the debate:
If you had a massage therapist in your family, how often would you ask for a massage?
Sometimes a massage table is more than just a piece of equipment. It's where people finally give themselves permission to stop multitasking, stop pushing through discomfort, and spend an hour focusing on their own well-being.
The hardest part is often not the treatment itself—it's deciding you're worth the time.
So we're curious...
If your body could book an appointment today, what would it be trying to fix?
One of the unique aspects of Thai massage is the ability to deliver broad, consistent pressure using different parts of the body—including the feet. In this video, Mio is working through the hamstring with a simple but effective rhythm: apply pressure, wait for the tissue to release, move slightly, and compress again.
Using the foot allows pressure to be spread over a larger surface area, creating a comfortable, sustained compression that can be difficult to achieve with hands alone. It's a technique rooted in centuries of Thai massage tradition and refined through modern therapeutic practice.
Many clients are surprised by how relaxing it feels. Less poking. Less digging. More steady pressure that encourages tight tissue to soften and let go.
And yes—Thai massage provided by a Registered Massage Therapist is covered under massage therapy benefits.
