Let me re-introduce myself.

My name is Kate Anand. Aka aka YYCSHORTHAIRSPECIALIST. You may know me as Kate Swartz, however I’ve recently gone back to my maiden name Kate Anand.

I have been in the hair game since 1998 celebrating my 28th year doing hair. I opened my own studio with .salon.studios in Greenwich village, November of 2024. I’m a single mother of 19 year old twins, an animal lover, and my neurodivergence is my super power.

K8MASTERSTYLIST is a safe, non judgemental space for all. I am happy to accommodate special needs, sensory issues etc. I understand the anxiety, and have a single studio to do so. Any concerns, just let me know ahead of time. I’m happy to help guide you thru your post chemo grow outs, and help you get thru general growing pains of growing out a short cut. I wear my heart on my sleeve and pride myself in my relationships with all my guests. You are more than your hair to me. I’m highly versed in all types of hair, however, overtime I did develop an allergy to lighteners. I no longer accept NEW long hair guests, unless the goal is going shorter. Questions? Just ask me.

My passion lies in short textured haircuts. I adore creating, correcting and balancing short cuts. Having had short hair myself, most of my life, I truly understand what it means to have a good short haircut, that grows out well. I offer, (by appt) lower cost “cleanups” and “half haircuts” in between haircuts to extend the life of your style. I am truly confident in short hair and love creating looks that complement your maintenance level, lifestyle, age, hair texture, and face shape.

I’m into low maintenance hair color, specializing in gray blending to keep things soft and your returns to the hair less frequent. I also specialize in cap highlights. Yes, cap highlights!! It’s a great option for short hair that cannot be blended down the sides. Questions? Ask me.

Who says having white hair is boring? Soda pop vibes for the win. I added some fun color pops to Sabina’s natural gorgeous white hair, using in combos of Jam and Cupid. This temporary color evolves as it fades with no commitment, and perfectly accents her s**ggy pixie cut.

Meet . One of my specialties with short hair is blonding using my signature cap highlighting technique. It's ideal for those seeking subtle lightening or an all-over blonde look. This method preserves depth at the roots and allows for softer grow-out. Hair processes evenly with reduced damage and overlap, and can be tapered to the hairline, unlike foiling.

This adorable little lady went over a year without a haircut, and we transformed her shapeless bob into a fabulous mid-length s**g. A blowout was a fun touch, but her natural texture is perfect for a wash-and-wear style.

One of my long-time favorite clients . Her hair is a stunning multi-dimensional honey bronde paired with a modern s**g cut. She pulls off the natural curly look most days, but I loved styling it for her Easter celebration!
