🌟MUSCLE OF THE MONTH🌟 This muscle runs from the chest up to the jaw and base of the skull and is one I feel come up frequently in sessions. The sternocephalicus plays an important role in lowering the head, bending the neck, and supporting front-end stability. When it’s functioning well, the neck can move more freely and the horse is better able to soften through the poll and along the topline. When this muscle is tight or overactive, horses may feel braced through the neck, resistant to bending, or inconsistent in the contact. Signs such as head tossing, stiffness, or difficulty relaxing are often associated with tension here. Addressing the sternocephalicus can make a noticeable difference in a horse’s comfort and ease of movement, especially when it’s included as part of a thoughtful, full-body approach rather than treated in isolation.
