This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling grateful for the people who make Setri what it is. The familiar faces who return, the new ones who find their way here, and the quiet moments of connection that happen between the warmth of the sauna and the cool forest air.

There’s a story behind our Forest Tub 🌲♨️

Inspired by the Japanese ofuro, our Forest Tub is rooted in a bathing tradition where the soak itself is the ritual.

Traditionally, you wash and rinse first, then step into a deep tub simply to relax, warm up and be still. Traditional ofuro are often made from wood, including hinoki cypress, bringing a natural element into the bathing experience.

That idea felt right at Setri.

Tucked among the trees, our Forest Tub is our own modern take on this old tradition. There’s no set temperature here. The water follows the temperature of the outdoors, connecting you a little more closely to the season, the forest and the elements around you.

Soak slowly. Stay awhile.

A little local story behind the aroma at Setri 🌿🔥

We’re proud to use Essential Aura in our sauna, a family-owned aromatics company rooted right here in Cobble Hill. Their botanicals are grown on a regenerative five-acre farm and thoughtfully distilled in small batches into essential oils and hydrosols.

And if you’ve ever noticed the gentle mist waiting for you at the end of your visit, that’s a hydrosol. These botanical waters are created through steam distillation and offer a soft, natural aroma without the intensity of an essential oil.

From the plants grown just down the road to the final mist on your skin, it’s another small way we get to bring a little more of the Cowichan Valley into your Setri experience. 🌿

A little scent can go a long way 🌿

We have essential oils available for the sauna for those who enjoy a gentle natural aroma during their time at Setri. Just a few simple steps help keep the experience enjoyable for everyone: check with your fellow guests first, use the custom diffuser, keep the bottles outside the sauna, and return them to the wooden box when you’re finished.

From fresh birch leaves to the scent of warm wood, natural aromas have long been part of Finnish sauna culture. A few drops, a shared moment, a little Setri. 🤎

Good books are even better when shared. If you’re visiting Setri, take a look through the shelf and find something that catches your eye. Read a few pages while you’re here, borrow a book to enjoy at home, or bring back a favourite when you’re finished.

And if you have a book you love, bring it with you next time and give someone else the chance to discover it too. 🤎

A new Max has entered the sauna. 😂

We figured keeping the name easy to remember was the way to go…😉

We’re very happy to introduce the newest member of the Setri family, Max!

Max grew up right here in the Cowichan Valley and is currently attending UVic, where he’s studying Psychology and Biology.

We’re proud to welcome Max to our little Setri crew, and we’re excited for all of you to get to know him throughout the season!

You’ll find Max tending the fire, making sure the cold plunges are chilly, and generally making sure your time at Setri feels like… well, Setri.

Please give him a warm welcome the next time you see him. 🌲🔥
