It's been a long time, but I was thinking of putting in an order to Steve Snider for his whole wheat, organic flour ASAP. I'm forwarding the previous message to you all, but please note that this time the cost will be $20 per 15 lb bag. It must be paid in advance to avoid no-shows. E-transfer is best, but if you can't do that, cash would be OK.

I will again try to arrange 2 pickup locations: one central, and one out at my place in the deep southwest of Edmonton. If you'd like to be the central pickup location, please let me know. I would deliver your bags, plus those of everyone who wants to pick up there, to your house, so you need to have room to store say 10-15 bags.

Food heroes... I have many of them. Today and I headed out on an adventure to get photos for ’s website (which I promise IS coming soon) and to meet Steve Snider an organic grain farmer just south east of Camrose. He was so generous with his time, sharing his knowledge and passion for organic growing. We headed back to his parents farm to see their small mill and to see some of their equipment. What I didn’t know was that his mum and dad were inside, his mum had prepared a beautiful lunch and his dad asked why we both were interested in organic grain. He went on to then tell us why over 30 years ago, they went organic, as he fought back tears I realised I’d just met a new food hero. At that time through a conversation with another farmer from the US, he realised that he had to choose conventional farming or his health, and he wished today to thank her for helping him to make the right choice. I didn’t only meet one food hero, his mum too, for putting a beautiful meal on the table with homemade bread and pudding from their own grain and salad from their garden. Of course Steve too, who is doing right by the land, who is willing to share and educate and who is doing what he does for the right reasons, without trying to prove anything. To say I’m inspired is an understatement.

Anyone preparing to PURPOSELY contaminate their own land either by spraying dandelions with Killex, WeedOut, or other 2,4-D-containing herbicides, or by getting a lawn care company to do it for them, should ask the soldiers at CFB Gagetown what they think about that. Agent Orange, the herbicide responsible for literally millions of birth defects, cancers, and other health issues worldwide, is a 50/50 mixture of 2 similar herbicides, one of which is the same 2,4-D that's in your dandelion killer. While risk may be relatively low when "used as directed", this almost never happens in real life. And who knows what your neighbours are doing. Our advice: 1) don't worry about the dandelions; 2) pull/dig out the dandelions; 3) use an iron-based non-toxic herbicide like Scott's EcoSense WeedBGon.
