update: i made this video exactly one year ago.. and now that the free trade agreement between canada and usa is now gone as of a few days ago - here we go again..

for six years my message has been start the business…especially to women. you can build a life that’s yours.

i don’t know if i can say that anymore… not with a straight face.

CFIB asked small business owners if they’d recommend starting a business right now. more than half said no. one in five said they won’t make it six months if things stay like this.

i used to tell everyone to start a business.
especially women. i meant it. i still kind of mean it.

but i don’t know what’s going to happen next month anymore. 

i haven’t known for about a year and a half. and it turns out you can’t really tell someone to bet on something you can’t see. last year i had to turn off shipping to the USA for over 4 months. now i’m in that same position again. 

this year more businesses in canada closed than opened. that’s been true for six quarters in a row now. the bay is gone. frank and oak is gone. and those are the ones with names - most of the ones closing are a woman with a dream, a computer, and inventory taking over her spare room.. nobody writes an article when she shuts it down.

i’m still here. i don’t know for how long, nobody does. i just wanted to say it out loud instead of posting like everything’s fine.
