There are moments in life when words don't seem big enough to capture how proud you feel. This is one of those moments.
This November, my sister, Julie Stanhope, will become the first-ever Special Olympian to be inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
Julie has spent her life showing the world what determination, courage, and passion look like. Through her love of figure skating, she represented her community, her province, and her country on stages around the world. She skated with grace, competed with heart, and inspired countless people everywhere she went.
But this honor is about so much more than medals, competitions, or achievements. It's about the barriers she has broken, the doors she has opened, and the example she has set for generations of athletes to come. As the first Special Olympian to receive this recognition, Julie is making history and proving that excellence knows no boundaries.
To our family, she has always been a champion. We have watched her work tirelessly, overcome challenges, and pursue her dreams with a strength that continues to inspire us every day. Seeing her receive this incredible honor is both emotional and deeply deserved.
Julie, your journey has touched so many lives. You have shown us the true meaning of perseverance, sportsmanship, and joy. We couldn't be prouder of all that you have accomplished and all that you represent.
Congratulations on this extraordinary honor. The world has been fortunate to watch your journey, and now your legacy will forever be part of Nova Scotia's sporting history.
