Have you noticed the competition among parents during children's graduation ceremonies these days?

I watched a video of children graduating from nursery to primary school and from primary to high school.
The little girls were wearing lace wigs, long fixed nails, heavy makeup, false eyelashes, body-hugging dresses, and walking confidently in high heels.

I just sat there asking myself, How did we get here?
Whatever happened to letting children be children?

Back in our day, we wore simple flowing dresses with pleats, a belt tied neatly at the back, and a graduation gown if there was one. That was enough. Nobody was trying to outshine anybody.

Now it feels like every graduation has become a fashion competition. Some parents even compare outfits and brag about who spent the most or whose child looked the best.

But are we teaching our children that looking expensive is more important than the reason for the celebration?

Biko, how many academic awards did your child bring home? I'm asking for a friend. 😂
Another thing I don't understand is these end-of-year parties for every single grade. Grade 1 to Grade 2.. party. Grade 3 to Grade 4. party. Before you know it,
parents are spending hundreds or even thousands of Naira every year on celebrations that don't mark a major milestone.

I honestly think Nigerian schools should reduce these unnecessary expenses and put more emphasis on children's academic growth, character, and achievements instead of creating pressure for parents to keep up with appearances.

Maybe it's just me. What do you all think?

The other day, my sister and I were talking, and she asked, Do you know high school graduates now sign each other's T-shirts before leaving school?

We both burst into laughter because my own kids did the same thing. 😂

When my son came home with his shirt full of signatures, I couldn't stop laughing. I was like, You people haven't even entered university or college yet. You're already signing farewell shirts? When you finally graduate from university, wetin una go sign again? Bedsheets?🤣🤣

These children are still so innocent. To them, life is just vibes, fun, and memories. They don't know that adulthood is waiting with bills, taxes, and responsibilities. 😂
And don't even get me started on the primary school pupils! They come to me all excited saying, Mrs. K, please sign my shirt.
I signed it with a smile. but inside my head, I had plenty questions.

Abeg, is this signing-shirt tradition now from elementary school all the way to university? Or am I the only one still trying to understand it? 😂

Social media is one of the most powerful tools we have today. It can influence opinions, spark change, and even bring an end to things that once seemed impossible.

I was about to make a G0000000 BECcccck 🤣 video until I came across this on Pair Pressure’s page. It reminded me that when Nigerian youths come together with one purpose, they can achieve results incredibly fast.

So my question is: why are we silent about so many of the things our government keeps throwing at us? The biggest challenge is that we don’t speak with one voice.

The day we decide to stand together, speak together, and act together, real change will happen. Unity has always been our greatest strength we just need to use it..

The fear of Nigerian youth is the beginning of wisdom for TYLA .

As we say goodbye to July, I want to say thank you to God for His faithfulness and to every one of you for your love, support, comments, shares, and encouragement throughout the month.

Keep believing, keep praying, and never give up. The same God who brought us safely through July is more than able to make August even better.
