Top Bar Equine Services

Excited to announce this duo has joined Team Top Bar! brittanyyvonne._

Food allergies in horses are considered very uncommon, but they tend to get blamed pretty quickly when a horse is dealing with hives, itching or other unexplained reactions.

One thing we need to be really careful with is removing ingredients based solely on positive test results. If a horse comes back positive to a long list of ingredients and we remove every single one, we can end up creating an unnecessarily restricted diet, and a lot of the time, the horse’s symptoms don’t even resolve after those ingredients have been removed.

If a food allergy is truly suspected, an elimination diet followed by systematically reintroducing ingredients is a much more useful way to work through what that horse may actually be reacting to.

A positive test result alone doesn’t necessarily mean that ingredient is the problem.

My favourite old man 🤍

He’s taught me more over the years than he’ll ever know.

AI isn’t the problem, but how we use it matters.

It’s an incredible tool for learning, asking questions and making information more accessible. But when it comes to something as individual as equine nutrition, context and professional judgment still matter.

Use the tools available to you. Just know their limitations. 🐴
