ReActive Physiotherapy would like to welcome our newest student, Breya, to the team!

She will be joining us until the beginning of December, assisting with our Wellspring and Bone Fitness classes and gaining valuable hands-on experience. When you see her around the clinic, please say hi!

A message from Breya:

Hi! My name is Breya, and I’m a fourth-year Kinesiology student at Western University. I grew up in Port Severn, a small town in South Muskoka, and have always loved being active and involved in sports. My passion for movement, fitness, and overall well-being led me to pursue Kinesiology, and over the past year I also became a certified personal trainer.

Outside of school, you can usually find me at the gym, on the golf course, or playing pickleball! I’m also a huge dog lover, all dogs are my favourite.

I’m so excited to be assisting with the Wellspring and Bone Fitness classes and to continue expanding my knowledge, gaining hands-on experience, and getting to know everyone at ReActive!

See you soon,
Breya

Welcome to the team, Breya! 🧡

✨ Movement Monday: Child’s Pose ✨

Feeling tight through your lower or middle back? Give this gentle stretch a try! 🧘‍♀️

How to do it:

1. Kneel on the floor with your toes touching and your knees spread wide.
2. Sit your hips back toward your heels.
3. Extend your arms straight out in front of you on the ground.
4. Let your lower back round slightly as you gently lower your chest toward the floor.
5. Take deep breaths into your rib cage and hold for 20–30 seconds.

💡 Why it helps: Child’s Pose gently stretches the muscles along your spine and can help relieve tightness through the lower and middle back.

Remember, the stretch should feel gentle and comfortable — don’t force the movement or push into pain.

Save this post and give it a try the next time your back needs a little extra mobility! 🙌

Osteoarthritis: What do people get wrong?

🦴 Think osteoarthritis is simply a result of “getting old”?

Think again.

📈 A 2023 study published in Healthcare looked at health-seeking behaviours and misconceptions surrounding osteoarthritis. The findings highlight the importance of improving public understanding of OA and when to seek appropriate care.

Here are a few important things to know:
❌ “Osteoarthritis is just wear and tear.”
OA is more complex than simply a joint “wearing out.” Many factors can contribute to its development and progression.

❌ “If I have OA, I should avoid exercise.”
Movement and appropriately prescribed exercise can play an important role in managing symptoms and maintaining strength and function.

❌ “Pain means I’m damaging my joint.”
Pain and tissue damage don’t always go hand in hand. A physiotherapist can help you understand your symptoms and determine what types of movement and exercise are appropriate.

❌ “I just have to live with it.”
There are evidence-informed strategies that can help people manage symptoms, improve function, and stay active.

💪 Your joints were made to move. Physiotherapy can help you understand your pain, build strength, improve mobility, and develop a plan that works for your body and your goals.

If joint pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, don’t just push through it, get it assessed.

📲 Book an assessment with ReActive Physiotherapy and consider if our GLA:D program is right for you!
