Honest question for the adjustable owners.

Do you set it once and leave it, or do you actually change the setting partway through the shave — higher on the cheeks, lower on the neck?

And if you set and forget, what number do you live on?

Taconic Eucalyptus Mint Shave Stick & Parker Travel Pure Badger Shaving Brush Set - Wish4Blades 10/07/2026

A proper shave, in a wash bag.

A shave stick removes the whole problem of travelling with soap. Twist it up, rub it straight onto damp skin, then build the lather on your face with a wet brush. No bowl, no tub, nothing to leak in your luggage.

This set pairs the Taconic eucalyptus and mint stick with a Parker travel brush that packs into its own handle.

Clear cream instead of lather. When would you actually use it?

Cella's Rapid is brushless, straight out of the 150ml tube, made with almond oil. The part people miss is printed on the box: texture trasparente, per rasatura di precisione. It goes on clear rather than opaque, so you can see the line you're shaving more clearly. That makes it genuinely useful for detail work, the neckline, round a moustache, tidying up a beard line.

What do you reach for when you are working on edges rather than doing a full pass?

Feather vs Astra Blades: Which Suits Your Razor? 10/05/2026

Feather is widely regarded as one of the sharpest commonly used double edge blades. That is exactly why it is the wrong blade to start with.

Feather Hi-Stainless is platinum coated and made in Japan. Astra Superior Platinum is platinum coated with a micro ground edge and made in Russia. Sharper is not the same as more comfortable. A very sharp edge takes stubble off with almost no pressure, which is wonderful once your angle and pressure are settled, and unforgiving before they are. Astra leaves you more room to get it wrong while you learn.

Which one suits you depends less on the blade than on the razor you put it in, and that is the part most blade comparisons skip.

Feather vs Astra Blades: Which Suits Your Razor? Feather is widely regarded as one of the sharpest common DE blades, Astra as the balanced all-rounder. Which razor suits each, and how to test both properly.

Everyone has a blade they keep coming back to after trying everything else.

Not necessarily the sharpest one. Usually the one that just behaves, shave after shave, in whatever razor you happen to pick up.

What is yours, and what razor is it in?

Nearly everyone starts on a closed comb and assumes they will stay there.

Then something changes — usually a blade, a soap, or finally slowing down — and an open comb starts to make sense.

Did you move across, move back, or never move at all? And what was the thing that changed it?

How to Choose a Shaving Brush: Boar, Badger or Synthetic 10/01/2026

Thin lather is usually blamed on the soap. It is often the brush.

Backbone is how much a knot resists being bent. A stiff knot digs into a hard puck and drags soap out of it. A soft knot glides over the top and picks up very little, which is how a perfectly good soap ends up producing something watery.

Here is the trap. Most people choose a brush by how soft it feels against the hand in the shop. Softness is the opposite of backbone.

Which of the three knot materials gives you which, and what knot size has to do with it:

Most people blame the razor when a shave goes badly. Usually it is the blade pairing.

A blade that feels harsh in an aggressive razor can be the best blade you own in a milder one. The blade is not "sharp" or "smooth" on its own — it only behaves that way in a particular head.

Which is why a sampler tells you more than any review will.

Why a barber buys shaving soap by the kilo.

That is Cella Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima in the one kilogram professional block. Cella's own history describes barbers cutting the block into pieces and keeping the rest wrapped, which is still the sensible way to handle it at this size.

Two things make the format work. Cella calls the formula super concentrated, so a small amount builds a full lather. And it is a cream soap, which sits between a hard soap and a tube cream, softer to load and quicker to build than either.

Soap or cream, and why Cella sits between them:

110 grams of solid brass.

Some wet shavers like a heavier razor because it encourages them to use less pressure and let the razor's weight do more of the work.

Others prefer something lighter and more manoeuvrable, and reckon a heavy razor punishes a bad angle harder than a light one does.

Where do you land — heavy or light?
