I started her microlocs 3 years ago, and today, look at her length! From baby twists that only we knew were locs 😝 to these beautiful, mature locs she can now throw up into a ponytail.

Interlocking vs. Palm Rolling: What’s the Difference?

Two different techniques. Two different approaches to loc maintenance.

Interlocking is a maintenance method that uses a tool to loc the new growth at the root in a pattern, helping secure the loc closer to the scalp.

Palm rolling is a technique that uses the palms to roll the loc, bringing the hair to coil and help maintain its shape. It’s a more common technique used for traditional locs.

Neither method is automatically better than the other. 🤷🏽‍♀️ The right choice depends on your loc size, hair texture, loc structure, and maintenance preference.

One important thing to remember: your maintenance method should work with your locs, not against them. Consistency and proper technique matter when it comes to maintaining healthy locs and minimizing unnecessary tension or thinning.

As a Loctician, I believe understanding the why behind each technique is just as important as knowing how to do it.
