What does “lived-in blonde” actually mean?

The answer should look different on every person.

For one guest, lived-in blonde might mean the softest ribbons of brightness with very little contrast. For another, it may mean noticeable dimension and a brighter face frame. Someone else may want a much more impactful blonde while still keeping enough softness at the root for a graceful grow-out.

That is why, at Capital Head Spa & Hair, the consultation is such an important part of the colour process.

Before we ever mix a formula, we are considering your natural colour, previous colour history, the condition and integrity of your hair, how you style it, how often you realistically want to return, and what “low maintenance” actually means in your life.

We also want to understand what you are responding to when you show us an inspiration photo. Is it the brightness? The softness? The contrast? The tone? The way the colour frames the face?

Those details allow us to create a result for **you**, rather than simply recreating a trend.

The same philosophy guides our approach to grey blending, dimensional colour, and personalized blonding. Beautiful hair should work beyond the day of your appointment, it should grow out thoughtfully, feel manageable at home, and continue to make sense for your lifestyle.

We work with Keune professional colour, backed by more than 100 years of innovation, because the health and integrity of the hair remain part of every colour decision we make.

If you are looking for lived-in blonde, grey blending, dimensional colour, or a more thoughtful salon experience in Ottawa, our Hair Boutique is located at Capital Head Spa & Hair in Ottawa South, near Walkley and Conroy.

Why does the water source in a Head Bath matter?

At Capital Head Spa & Hair, our Toshinyoku Head Bath is connected directly to our running-water supply. Fresh water flows over the scalp and then immediately drains away. Nothing is collected and circulated back through the treatment.

That decision was intentional for a few reasons.

From a sanitation perspective, continuously wet systems can provide conditions where microorganisms persist and biofilms can develop, particularly when plumbing and equipment are also exposed to oils and product residue. By using fresh water that passes through the Head Bath once and drains away, previously used treatment water is never reapplied to the scalp.

Fresh water also matters for the scalp itself. Thorough shampooing and rinsing help remove accumulated oil, dead skin cells, microorganisms and product residue. Dermatologists specifically note that shampoo left behind on the scalp may cause irritation, which is one reason a complete rinse matters.

Then there is another side of the experience.

Across cultures and centuries, flowing water has been used in rituals of cleansing, renewal and purification. That symbolism is not accidental: the continuous movement of water naturally lends itself to the idea of release, what has passed is carried away rather than returned. Historical records document running water specifically being used in purification practices.

Modern research gives us another piece of the picture: natural sounds, including flowing water, have been associated with relaxation and stress recovery.

For us, that is what Traditional Japanese Head Spa does so beautifully; it allows science, sensory experience and ritual to exist together.

There is so much that happens before we ever welcome you into the treatment room.

Fresh linens are placed. Your robe is prepared. The Takara Belmont Yume treatment bed is reset and ready. Your sensory journey and massage products are selected. Clean, sanitized tools are laid out, and the MicroMist cart is stocked with everything needed for your individual service.

At Capital Head Spa & Hair, we believe a traditional Japanese Head Spa experience should feel thoughtful from beginning to end.

Our Head Spa treatments are about far more than simply washing the hair or massaging the scalp. They are an opportunity to slow down, care for your scalp and hair, and spend time in a space that has been intentionally prepared for you.

If you have been searching for a traditional Japanese Head Spa in Ottawa, or are curious about the Takara Belmont Yume Head Spa experience, we would love to welcome you.
