I decided to treat myself for my birthday this year and signed up for a painting course with Canadian landscape artist Gordon Harrison on March 7 & 8.

Even though collage is my main medium, I’ve been wanting to understand color and light more deeply. I’m drawn to the way he uses a limited but bold palette ,building strong contrasts, rich shadows, and luminous skies that feel both dramatic and peaceful at the same time.

I’m curious to see how painting might slowly find its way into my collage work — adding new depth to the themes of love, loss, and renewal that run through my pieces.

There’s something beautiful about being a beginner again.

It’s based on a photograph I took of them myself.

I thought about commissioning a local artist,
but I realized I wanted to go through the process on my own — just for the memory.

It’s slower and more challenging than I expected, but there’s something really meaningful about sitting with it, one small section at a time.
Still very much a work in progress.

Lena came in today and we decided to add soft , natural highlights to bring light and movement-gently framing her face and softening her features.. 💕
