🇨🇦💵 CANADA UNVEILS A NEW $20 NOTE FEATURING KING CHARLES III 👑

Canada has officially unveiled its new $20 bank note, and there’s a major change on the front King Charles III is now featured on the note.

This is the first Canadian bank note to feature King Charles III and the first time in more than 70 years that a new monarch has appeared on the $20 denomination.

The new note has a vertical design, remains primarily green and includes new security features designed to make it easier to authenticate and harder to counterfeit.

The back of the note will continue to feature the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France, while the front includes floral symbols representing Canada’s 13 provinces and territories.

But don’t start looking for it in your wallet just yet 😄. The new $20 note is expected to start circulating in late February 2027. Until then, the current $20 note featuring Queen Elizabeth II will continue to circulate.

A big congratulations to Dr. Okoye, a Nigerian doctor who is joining Brandon Clinic in Manitoba as a General Surgeon.

From Nigeria to Canada, his journey is a great example of what can happen when internationally trained professionals navigate a new system, meet the required standards, and keep working toward their goals.

This is more than a personal achievement it’s a proud moment for his family, the Nigerian community, and the wider African diaspora in Canada.

Canada has many talented professionals from around the world, including doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers and other skilled workers who are ready to contribute and serve their communities.

Congratulations, Dr. Okoye. May this new chapter be filled with success and impact.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CONSIDERS TOUGHER PASSPORT RULES FOR CHILDREN

A new proposed change in the United States could make getting a passport for a child a little more complicated for some families.

Under draft guidance being considered by the U.S. State Department, parents or legal guardians applying for a passport for their child could be required to provide proof of their own U.S. citizenship or immigration status.

The proposal is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to tighten rules around birthright citizenship and what it calls “birth tourism.”

However, this is important, the proposal has not become a final rule yet, and the issue is already facing legal challenges. A federal judge has also bl0cked Trump’s latest attempt to restrict birthright citizenship while the legal case continues.

If implemented, this could mean that a child’s U.S. birth certificate may not be the only document considered during the passport application process.

Immigration and citizenship rules continue to change. What do you think about this proposed change?

🇺🇸 NEW YORK CITY SAYS “NOT YET” TO AI FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS

New York City is taking a very different approach to artificial intelligence in schools.

For the 2026–27 school year, students from 2-K through 8th grade in NYC public schools will face a one-year moratorium on using student-facing generative AI tools.

The idea is to give younger students more room to think, read, write, solve problems, be creative and interact with teachers and classmates without depending heavily on AI.

But here’s the interesting part AI isn’t completely off the table.

High school students will receive AI literacy lessons and some may use carefully selected AI tools under teacher supervision. The goal is to help older students understand both the opportunities and risks of AI before entering a world where the technology is becoming increasingly important.

The policy is expected to affect nearly 600,000 NYC public school students and will be evaluated during the school year.

🇨🇦 CANADA’S HEALTHCARE IS GREAT UNTIL YOU VISIT THE DENTIST OR OPTOMETRIST 😂

One thing living in Canada has taught me is to really appreciate the public healthcare system. 🇨🇦❤️

Medically necessary doctor and hospital services are generally covered through the public system, but dental care and many vision services are a different story.

And if you don’t have insurance coverage for those? God help you 😂

Sometimes, just paying out of pocket for a consultation, eye exam, glasses, dental treatment or other services can make you pause and say, “Now I truly appreciate public healthcare” 😅

The bill can definitely be an experience 😂

Congratulations to Florence Eshalomi, a British-Nigerian politician who has been appointed Minister of State in the UK’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Florence was elected to Parliament in 2019 and has now reached another major milestone in her political career. She currently serves as Minister of State for Homelessness, Democracy, Communities and Faith.

Her journey is a testament to the fact that where you start does not have to determine where you finish.

Raised in Brixton by a single mother, Florence’s story reflects determination, education, public service and perseverance. Her rise to a senior government position is certainly a moment worth celebrating.

For Africans living abroad, stories like this can serve as encouragement: your background does not have to limit your dreams.

With hard work, consistency, preparation and the willingness to keep going, opportunities can open in places you may never have imagined.

Her achievement is a proof that immigrants and their children can make meaningful contributions to the communities and countries they call home.
