Although moving my business to a new town after being established in Parksville for 15 years has certainly been a financial challenge, and building a new client base has been something I’ve worked very hard to achieve, I’ve come to realize that financial success is no longer the greatest reward of what I do.

The greatest reward is something much deeper.

Every time a client leaves feeling more comfortable, experiencing less pain, feeling genuinely cared for, or even looking in the mirror with a renewed sense of confidence and self-appreciation, I receive a gift as well.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that giving truly is a gift in itself. There is an incredible sense of fulfillment that comes from knowing you’ve made someone’s day a little brighter, their body a little healthier, or their mind a little more at peace.

It’s difficult to explain, but during many of my massage treatments, I often feel as though I am the one receiving rather than giving. There is an energy in caring for another person that somehow finds its way back to me. Watching someone relax, breathe easier, smile, or leave feeling better than when they arrived fills me with a sense of purpose that no paycheck ever could.

Yes, I need clients to build my business, but what I’ve learned is that every appointment is an exchange. I may be providing the treatment, but my clients give something back that can’t be measured. They remind me why I chose this profession in the first place.

Helping people feel better—whether physically, emotionally, or simply by giving them an hour to feel valued—is one of the greatest privileges of my life. I truly love what I do, and I feel incredibly fortunate that my work allows me to experience the joy of giving while receiving so much in return
