THIS is why your lashes don’t look the same 2–3 weeks later 👀

See that extension sitting away from the lash line? That’s a grown-out extension.

Your natural lashes are constantly moving through their growth cycle, so the extension grows out right along with the natural lash it’s attached to. As it moves farther from the base, it can become more noticeable, twist, feel heavier, or catch on surrounding lashes.

And this is exactly why fills aren’t just about replacing lashes that have fallen out. Your lash artist also needs to identify grown-out extensions and safely remove them before they cause pulling, twisting, or unnecessary stress on the natural lash.

✨ Healthy extensions = proper isolation + correct weight + regular maintenance.

For my fellow lash artists: learning to recognize what needs to be removed during a fill is just as important as knowing how to apply a new extension.

Clients: this is your reminder that your extensions are attached to your natural lash — so yes, they WILL grow out. That’s completely normal. 🤍

HAIR POROSITY… BUT MAKE IT LASHES 👀

Your natural lashes have a porosity level too — and yes, it can affect your extensions.

✨ Low porosity lashes → the cuticle is tighter, so products like cleanser, primer and adhesive can behave differently and may require more intentional prep.

✨ High porosity lashes → the cuticle is more open, which can mean they absorb moisture/products quickly. Use proper adhesive amounts (maybe even a tad more than you think).

And this is exactly why one-size-fits-all lash application doesn’t exist.

Your lash artist needs to consider the condition, texture, moisture levels and overall health of your natural lashes when choosing their prep, adhesive and application approach.

Students: learning why your products behave the way they do is what takes you from simply applying lashes to actually understanding your craft. 👏🏼

STOP PRACTICING THE SAME MAP OVER AND OVER. 👀

Your mannequin head is amazing for practicing your mapping technique — but remember, you can’t truly assess an eye shape on a mannequin the way you can on a real person.

Want to get better at styling?

📱 Go online and find pictures of REAL eyes and practice mapping for them.

For example:

Short, open eyes?
Practice creating a map that gives the appearance of more length and lift without making the eye look heavier or more closed.

Longer, almond-shaped eyes?
Practice how you would distribute your lengths to complement that shape rather than automatically reaching for a standard cat eye.

Downturned eyes?
Practice placement and length transitions that work with the natural direction of the eye.

The point is to start looking at an eye and asking:

“What does this eye need?”

—not—

“What map do I always use?”

Save photos of different eyes. Screenshot them. Draw your maps over them. Then recreate those maps on your mannequin.

That repetition trains your styling eye, your mapping decisions AND your muscle memory before you ever sit down with a client.

🎓 Students: don’t just practice application. Practice your DECISION MAKING.

Because knowing how to place lashes is one skill.
Knowing how to design a set specifically for the person in front of you is artistry.
