6 months after graduating, my RMT bestie (.rmt) and I drove up to Saskatoon to spend the weekend with our adopted and dubbed RMT mom who taught us all the ins and outs (pun intended) of external and intra-oral massage to treat TMJ dysfunction.

Since then, this type of treatment has become my bread-and-butter. About half of my current patients and most of my new referrals are coming with TMJD and related issues. Jaw pain while eating, difficulty chewing, decreased range of motion, clicking, popping, ear aches, headaches, facial pain, neck and shoulder pain.

In May, I started a new course for voice and swallowing disorders treated primarily with laryngeal massage, but also includes the jaw, the tongue, the face, and diaphragm.

It might be the coolest thing I do. 😜

Whoops, I guess I forgot that last Sunday marked 3 years in practice for me! I was too busy camping and surviving the mosquito invasion.. 🦟😬

3 years… the first half of that, I struggled with ‘imposter syndrome.’ I felt called to a healing profession, but had seemingly endless self-doubt in my ability to help anyone. Then the last half of that has been an incredibly difficult time in my personal life… BUT, gratitude and anxiety cannot coexist in the brain so on that note, I am endlessly grateful for:

1. Self-employment. The flexibility to work when I want and when I can while being available for my family and homeschooling my kiddo has been an invaluable gift.

2. My RMT bestie, .rmt. She keeps me moving and keeps me sane. She tolerates my potty mouth, my off-colour jokes, and a whole lot of whining during treatment (she’s kind of mean to me 😅). But I’d be lost without her. 🤗❤️

3. My RMT mom. She’s never more than a phone call away and always shows up with the best advice, guidance, and love. 🥰

4. My patients. Y’all are truly the best and not just cause you keep my lights on and food on the table. I’m humbled and amazed everyday by your strength, your resilience, and your trust in me— your trust with your physical body and health, but also your psychological self too. I have had the privilege of being the first person to learn of your pregnancy or new job… but also your cancer diagnosis or impending divorce… it’s truly been an honour. Thank you for another year on the table. 💕

TMJD treatments begin with a 45 minute initial assessment and treatment, after which we will discuss a treatment plan. Follow up treatments are also priced by time.
