Cadence & Nevaeh, I don’t think you realize just how proud I am of you both.

I’ve watched you grow. I’ve watched you feel uncomfortable, question yourselves, reflect, learn, make mistakes, try again, and keep showing up. And honestly? Watching that growth has been one of the most rewarding parts of being your mentor and your boss.

This year has been about so much more than hair. It’s been about finding your confidence, learning who you are behind the chair, trusting yourselves, and realizing just how capable you truly are.

I’m so proud that Lather has been a place where you’ve been given opportunities to learn, grow, and experience things that not everyone gets the chance to experience this early in their careers. And I hope you know that I will always be cheering you on—especially through the moments that feel uncomfortable.

Why I built Lather Hair Co. 🤍

Lather wasn’t created because I wanted to open just another hair salon.

I built Lather because after 17 years in this industry, I knew there was a better way.

My journey in this industry has taken me from behind the chair, to educating other hairstylists, to earning my Bachelor of Education with teaching certifications in hairstyling and esthetics. Education has always been a huge part of who I am—and it’s at the heart of everything I do.

That’s what makes Lather different.

I don’t believe in simply doing someone’s hair and sending them on their way. I believe in understanding why.

Why is your hair breaking?
Why isn’t your colour lasting?
Why is your scalp constantly oily, itchy, or uncomfortable?
Why aren’t you getting the growth or health you’re trying to achieve?

I believe our job is not only to create beautiful hair, but to educate you along the way.

I wanted to build a salon where clients feel heard and understood. Where we look at the bigger picture of your hair and scalp health, create a personalized plan, and teach you how to maintain your results at home.

But I also wanted to create a place where hairstylists could grow.

My education background has taught me that everyone learns differently, and everyone has the ability to become better with the right support, guidance, and environment. I wanted to build a salon where education isn’t an afterthought—it’s part of our culture.

Lather is where my two worlds come together: my passion for hair and my passion for education.

After 17 years in this industry, I know beautiful hair isn’t just about the final result.

It’s about trust.
It’s about knowledge.
It’s about healthy hair.
It’s about feeling confident in the person sitting behind you.

That’s why I built Lather.

To create beautiful hair, yes—but also to educate, empower, and raise the standard of what a salon experience can be.

Back in Batoche, and every time I’m here, I feel a deep connection to the land because I’m the result of both the resilience and the loss that shaped our people. Today, we can stand tall and be proud of our history, our culture, and who we are.

Many of our families hid their Métis identities to stay safe after the Red River Resistance of 1869–1870 and the Resistance of 1885 in Batoche and the surrounding communities. Even through those hardships, our kinship ties remained strong.

One of the most beautiful parts of being Métis is the importance of community. Our families were friends, neighbours, and looked after one another generations ago, and those same kinship ties continue today. There is something incredibly powerful about knowing that the connections our ancestors built are still alive within our communities. Our families were friends long ago, and today those same families are still friends. ❤️♾️ Somehow, without even planning it, we always seem to find our way back to each other. I love that, and I think it speaks to just how strong our Métis kinship ties truly are.

I’m so grateful to be able to share a little piece of our culture, our history, and our homeland with our boys. These are the stories, places, and relationships that remind us where we come from and why it matters to keep our culture alive.

This blonde was created using high-lift color with just a few bleach foils at the root only.

Believe it or not, this gorgeous blonde was once a color correction. At her previous blonding appointment, she had level 1 box black from the nape down, making this transformation a true labor of patience, skill, and trust.

Four hours later, we achieved this soft, bright blonde while keeping the integrity of her hair a top priority. 💫

I couldn’t be happier with the result—and neither could she! 🫶
