before your whitening appointment, there are a few things your whitening tech should know 👀 these details help us customize your treatment & provide you with the best care ⤵️

⚡ tooth sensitivity ~ let us know before treatment if you have sensitive teeth 🦷 your tech can adjust the treatment to help minimize discomfort~ a desensitizing gel can also be used before, during, or after treatment to prevent or reduce sensitivity

✨ previous whitening ~ tell us if you’ve whitened before & how your teeth responded. some intrinsic staining can be more resistant to cosmetic whitening, including certain medication-related stains, knowing your history helps set realistic expectations

🪥 recent dental cleaning ~ regular cleanings are recommended for most people around every 6 months~ a professional cleaning removes plaque, tartar & buildup, giving your tech a clean surface to work on, if you recently had a cleaning, let us know when it was & whether fluoride was applied (we recommend waiting around 48–72 hours after a fluoride treatment before whitening for the best results)

🦷 recent dental work ~ fillings, bonding, crowns, veneers, implants, extractions & other dental procedures are important for your tech to know about since dental materials don’t whiten like natural teeth 🚫

🚨 tooth or gum concerns ~ tooth pain, cavities, cracks, bleeding or irritated gums? let your tech know before whitening (any underlying dental concerns should be addressed first)

this year has taught me to appreciate the lessons during the hard seasons & trust that everything is working out even when I can’t see it 👁️ in no particular order ~ here are 27 things I’ve learned ↓

1. embrace change cus most of the time change is happening *for* you
2. no one is coming to save you so lock TF in
3. community matters & having the right people around you can carry you through seasons you couldn’t get through alone (this one was a big one cus I’m introvertiii)
4. the best ideas usually come from actually listening to your customers
5. always try to find the positive in the negative
6. trust your gut
7. don’t block your blessings by holding onto things that hold you back
8. consistency will always beat random bursts of motivation
9. rest is healthy
10. if something works keep doing it
11. stop letting little tasks pile up
12. make decisions faster
13. do the things that require the most mental energy in the AM
14. keep your customers happy but don’t forget your own boundaries
15. be careful who you surround yourself w/ because the people around u can either fuel your growth or distract u from it
16. rely on discipline not motivation
17. hard seasons don’t last forever unless u stay stuck in them
18. systems will save u
19. u can’t control anyone but yourself
20. keep an unplug routine (meditate, stretch, journal, etc.)
21. you don’t need to have everything figured out you just need to take the next step

a lot of people think tooth gems randomly off overtime, but retention actually depends on multiple factors & knowing them can help your gems last longer ⏳

here are common factors that make the biggest difference ⤵️

🪥 oral hygiene ~ plaque and buildup around the gem can weaken the bond over time so keeping your teeth clean (daily flossing, brushing & regular dental visits) help maintain both your gem and your enamel

🦷 enamel health ~ healthy enamel = better retention ✅ gems bond best to strong, smooth enamel, teeth with heavy demineralization, damage, or a weakened surface may not hold gems as well

😬 teeth grinding/clenching ~ grinding creates repeated pressure+ friction on the gem 💎 over time, this can weaken the bond & shorten retention

🌮 biting hard foods ~ chewing ice, biting hard candy, using your teeth as tools, etc. can place direct force on the gem & cause it to loosen or fall off early

🦷 application technique ~ proper isolation, products, prep, curing, & placement all matter 📝if moisture contaminates the tooth during application, retention can be affected 🚫placement is also important ➡️ gems placed on heavy contact points or areas that experience constant biting/friction may not last as long

📋aftercare habits ~ post-appt. habits matter more than people think 🤔 following your gem tech’s aftercare instructions helps maximize retention. Abrasive DIY whitening methods that are commonly used daily like baking soda, lemon, charcoal, or aggressive brushing with hard bristle toothbrushes can wear down enamel and can affect the adhesive over time as well
