Facts about Down Syndrome
Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by having an extra copy of chromosome 21. This is called trisomy 21.
Key facts:
🧬 Most people have 46 chromosomes; a person with Down syndrome typically has 47.
🧠 It can affect learning, development, and physical characteristics to varying degrees.
❤️ Some people have associated health conditions, including congenital heart defects.
👶 It usually results from a random chromosome-separation error during cell division and is not caused by something a parent did or didn't do.
🔬 There are three main forms: full trisomy 21, translocation Down syndrome, and mosaic Down syndrome.
❤️ People with Down syndrome can live fulfilling lives, and their abilities and support needs vary considerably.
Down syndrome occurs when there is an extra copy of chromosome 21. 🧬❤️

GENETIC FACTS.
🧬 Chromosomal Abnormalities & Associated Genetic Conditions
Chromosomal abnormalities happen when there is a change in the number or structure of chromosomes.
Abnormality , Chromosomal change, Associated condition.
Trisomy 21: Extra chromosome 21-----> Down syndrome
Trisomy 18: Extra chromosome 18------> Edwards syndrome
Trisomy 13: Extra chromosome 13 ------> Patau syndrome
45,X: Missing one X chromosome ------> Turner syndrome
47,XXY : Extra X chromosome in a male --------> Klinefelter syndrome
47, # # #: Extra X chromosome: --------> Triple X syndrome
47,XYY Extra Y chromosome XYY syndrome
Note: Not every chromosomal abnormality causes disease. Some are harmless, while others can affect development, health, or fertility.
🧠 Quick fact: Humans normally have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs—22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of s*x chromosomes.

NATURE AND SCIENCE
The important reasons why weaver birds 🐦build and hang their nests from tree branches.
🐍 Protection from predators: Hanging nests are harder for snakes, monkeys, and other predators to reach.
🌬️ Strong attachment: The woven grass fibers create a surprisingly strong structure that can withstand wind.
🌧️ Shelter: The hanging design helps keep rainwater from entering the nest.
🐣 Protecting eggs and chicks: The narrow entrance and hanging position make the nest harder for predators to enter.
❤️ Attracting mates: Male weaver birds often build elaborate nests to show females their building skills.
Amazing fact: Weaver birds can weave grasses and plant fibers into complex knots and patterns—almost like a tiny natural basket maker! 🪹
Have you seen these hanging nests before?
VINTAGE MICROSCOPE 🔬.
This microscope reminded me of my secondary school biology lab. We used it to view biological slides. I never saw anything. I did not know who had problems, my eyes or the microscope.
Did you ever used this, what was your experience?

GENETIC FACTS
Why is the father the genetic determinant of a baby’s s*x? 🧬👶
It comes down to the s*x chromosomes:
👩 Mother: Her eggs carry only an X chromosome.
👨 Father: His s***m can carry either an X or a Y chromosome.
X s***m + X egg = XX → typically female
Y s***m + X egg = XY → typically male
So, the s***m determines whether the embryo receives an X or Y chromosome.
⚠️ This is about chromosomal s*x at fertilization; biological s*x development is more complex than just XX/XY.
What do you tell men that blame their wives for having only female children?

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AUTOSOMES AND S*X CHROMOSOMES
🧬 Autosomes — simply explained
Autosomes are all the chromosomes that are NOT s*x chromosomes.
Humans typically have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs):
22 pairs = autosomes 🧬
1 pair = s*x chromosomes (XX or XY)
Autosomes carry genes responsible for many traits and body functions, including height, blood type, metabolism, and many inherited conditions.
👉 Easy way to remember:
22 pairs = autosomes + 1 pair = s*x chromosomes = 23 pairs total.
