When it comes to laser hair removal, wavelength matters.

The wavelength determines how the laser energy interacts with melanin and how deeply it penetrates the skin. Our goal is to get that energy down to the hair follicle, where it can heat and damage the follicle enough to significantly reduce its ability to produce hair.

That’s why we use the Candela GentleMax Pro, which gives us access to both Alexandrite 755nm and Nd 1064nm.

For lighter skin tones, we often choose Alexandrite 755nm because it is highly absorbed by melanin. This allows us to target the pigment in the hair follicle very efficiently. Compared with a typical diode wavelength, Alexandrite has a stronger affinity for melanin, which can make it particularly effective for lighter skin with dark, coarse hair.

For darker skin tones, Nd 1064nm is our go-to. Its longer wavelength penetrates deeper and is absorbed less by melanin in the surrounding skin, allowing us to target the hair follicle while reducing the risk of unwanted heating of the epidermis.

So no, we don't simply use the same laser on everyone. We choose the wavelength based on your skin tone, hair and treatment area. When it comes to laser hair removal, it's not just about having a laser. It's about using the right wavelength to reach the right target.
