There’s something to be said for finding contentment in the season you’re actually in. Taking a breath. Slowing down. Letting things unfold without feeling like you need to have it all figured out.

At Tonic, we’re big believers in taking a little time to simply be.

Just a little space to breathe, reset and find some contentment in the here and now.

Still summer. We’re not rushing it.

Apparently September starts this week.

Cool.

But we’re still wearing sandals, sitting outside, squeezing every last drop out of summer and pretending the words thanksgiving or Halloween haven’t been mentioned.

There are still beach days. Patio drinks. Warm evenings. Sun on our shoulders. That delicious feeling of warm.

So let’s not rush into the next season just yet.

Stay here a little longer. Enjoy the sunshine. Book the facial. Get the pedicure. Sit in the garden.

And for the love of your face, wear your SPF.

We’ll deal with fall when we absolutely have to.

Apparently summer has decided to stick around a little longer, and we’re not complaining.

Our Summer Specials are staying on the menu until the end of September, so there’s still plenty of time to sneak in some sunshine, relaxation and skin care before we fully embrace sweaters and rainy-day hair.

Keep It Weird, Victoria.

I just had a quick visit with Shannon at My Mothers Eye, naturally we ended up reminiscing about Victoria in the late ’80s and ’90s.

We both agreed: it was weird & wonderful.

There were so many independent stores, creative spaces & places where people could simply have an idea and make it happen. A little more room for creativity, curiosity and the wonderfully unexpected.

I’m proud of all of us independent businesses still out here creating, making, selling and adding a little personality to our city.

This weekend, maybe make a few local choices. Wander your neighbourhood. Visit a small business. Buy something from a local weirdo who has decided to make their little corner of Victoria a bit more interesting.

That’s the stuff that makes a city feel like home.
