Get in, we’re goin’ to Cosmoprof 🚗… and then the salon… and then who knows.

Come along on my aimless, sort of productive Sunday. 😂

Flew to Europe to find your perfect match. 👀

Now that I’m home, I took the weekend for some much-needed house cleaning and a little reset.

Hoping to finally go through all my Europe photos today, and at some point show you all the stock of hair I brought home with me. 😍😍

Remy vs. non-Remy hair.

One of the biggest things we learned while in Estonia was how to spot the difference, and honestly, it changed the way I’ll look at hair forever.

Remy hair means all of the cuticles are aligned in the same direction from root to tip. That might sound like a small detail, but it makes a huge difference in how the hair wears over time. When the cuticles are mixed and facing different directions (non-Remy), they rub against each other, which can lead to tangling, matting, and dryness.

We learned several different ways to test for this while we were away, and this is one of the simplest. This test was done with nothing more than Dawn dish soap and water.

Now, this isn’t to say every single-donor bundle is going to be perfect every single time. Occasionally you’ll find a non-Remy section even in single-donor hair. But it’s far more common in large factory-produced hair, where hair from multiple donors is collected, processed, and blended together. In some cases, that hair can even come from a variety of collection methods (even off the floor or in drains 😬) before being heavily processed and coated with silicones to make it look smooth and shiny. Once those coatings start to wear off, the true quality starts to show.

Getting to see these tests firsthand and learning exactly what to look for was one of the coolest parts of the trip. It gave me so much more confidence in the hair I source and why I’m so passionate about knowing exactly where it comes from.

There’s so much more to quality hair than just how it looks on day one.
