The operating steps are as follows:

Wash hands: Wash hands before and after changing the ostomy bag.

Remove the old ostomy bag: Gently peel it off from the skin edge, avoiding forceful tearing.

Clean the skin around the stoma: Gently clean with warm water and dry. Avoid using products containing alcohol, oils, or strong fragrances.

Measure the stoma size: The stoma size may change, especially in the early postoperative period. The baseplate opening should usually be about 1–2 mm larger than the stoma to avoid compressing it and to reduce contact of excrement with the skin.

Cut the baseplate opening: If it is a cuttable type, cut it to fit the shape of the stoma.

Apply the baseplate: Remove the protective film, align the opening with the stoma, and gently press outwards from around the stoma to ensure a full fit against the skin.

Install the bag: For two-piece ostomy bags, fasten the bag to the baseplate tightly; for one-piece bags, the baseplate and bag are one piece.

Check the seal: Ensure the edges are firmly attached without any noticeable lifting or wrinkling.

Empty the bag: Empty the bag when it is about 1/3 to 1/2 full of excrement; it is not recommended to wait until it is completely full.

Replace regularly: Replace the bag immediately if leakage, loose base, significant itching, or skin irritation occurs.
