The month when the air gets cooler, the dinners get warmer, and somehow we start gathering a little closer.
Thanksgiving is coming.
And before the turkey, the full tables and all the things we are grateful for...
here's one we don't say often enough:

To the one I choose to do life with
I'm grateful I still get to do life with you.
Not because every day is romantic.
Because after all these years, there are still laughs we haven't had yet.
Places we haven't been.
Stories we haven't told.
Things we haven't tried.
And versions of us we haven't even met yet .🧡

Here's to October.
To gathering.
To gratitude.
To falling leaves and falling for each other a few more times. ❤️🍂

WHEN DID EVERYTHING GET SO LOUD?

The television.

Someone asking me a question while I'm cooking.

My phone ringing.

My husband trying to tell me something while I'm reading something.

And WHY are there seventeen different noises happening in the grocery store?

Some days, I swear I can hear electricity. 😂

And suddenly, I need EVERYTHING to STOP.

Not because I'm angry. Not because anyone has done anything wrong.

My brain just cannot process ONE MORE SOUND.

But here's the kicker...

I still need subtitles on the TV so I can hear it. 🫠

Seriously, how many women were completely unprepared for the sensory overload of menopause?

Now excuse me I'll be in my car...

I WANT MY HUSBAND TO HIT ON ME.
Yes. My husband. 😏

There. I said it.
Not ask me what's for supper.
Not give me a sweet little kiss because he's leaving the house.
I mean HIT. ON. ME.
Catch my eye from across the room.
Come up behind me.
Whisper something that makes me look at him like...
Excuse me, sir? 😏
Send me a text I would NOT want accidentally popping up on the family iPad.
Flirt with me when we're out.
Make me wonder what he's thinking.
We've been married a long time.
He already got the girl.
I just don't think that means he has to stop chasing her.
And for the record...
maybe she shouldn't stop chasing him either. 😏

FORTY. EIGHT. - When All in The Family first aired.
Let that sink in....

I'm 52 and I’m having a bit of trouble processing this information.
Because growing up, Edith wasn't middle-aged.
In my head, she was OLD old.

THIS is what I grew up thinking a woman “around 50” looked like.

Meanwhile here we are in our 50s starting businesses, travelling, wearing whatever the heck we want, falling in love again with our spouse, reinventing ourselves, still wondering what we're going to be when we grow up 😅


I'm not feeling anything like the version of “50” we had pictured in our heads.
And that's the Cool part.
We didn't become the 50-year-olds we grew up watching.
We became Our Own best version of 50.

50 didn't get younger.
Women changed what 50 looks like.

And I freaking LOVE that!!

Husbands, remember before she was your wife…

She was the woman you couldn’t wait to see, the one you called just to hear her voice. The one you drove across town for. The one you stayed up way too late talking to.
The one you tried REALLY hard to impress. 🥰

Maybe today isn't just about appreciating everything your wife does.

Maybe it's about remembering to see her.

Not just your wife not just the woman you've built a home and a life with

HER

The woman who still has things she wants to do.
Places she wants to go.
Things she's curious about.
Things she's still figuring out about herself.

The woman who still wants to feel beautiful.
Still wants to be flirted with.
Still wants to be surprised.
Still wants to have fun.
Still wants to feel that little spark of “you still see me.”

Because midlife changes us and there's something pretty incredible about getting to know the woman she's becoming, too. ❤️

So today, don't only thank your wife for everything she does.
Tell her something you love about who she is.

Apparently today is Love Note Day… and honestly, this is one we can get behind. ❤️

Remember getting a note from someone you liked?

The folded-up piece of paper.
The handwriting you recognized immediately.
Reading it once… and then another six times. 😂

When did we stop doing that?

So today, write your husband a love note.

Not a novel.
Not your wedding vows.
Just something real.

I still love your laugh.
I'd still pick you.
You looked really good this morning.
I'm glad I get to do this life with you.
Meet me upstairs later. 😉

Then tuck it somewhere he'll find it when you're not standing there watching.

Because maybe love notes aren't something we're supposed to grow out of after all. ❤️
