Before we take our very first breath, we are surrounded by water in our mother’s womb, moving with the rhythm of her body.

Water is where life begins.

In the philosophy of the Five Elements, Water is associated with winter, the kidneys, bladder and ears, and the emotions of fear and wisdom.

But there’s something far deeper and fascinating I want to share about Water.

Water is never truly still. Even when a lake appears perfectly calm, there is movement beneath its surface.

Think of the extraordinary power of the oceans and great rivers. This is Yang Water — immense, dynamic and sometimes unstoppable.

Yin Water is gentler, quieter and more reflective. But don’t mistake gentleness for weakness. It possesses its own extraordinary depth and strength.

Water teaches us that strength doesn’t always need to be visible.

It reminds us of the hidden reserves within ourselves — the courage and wisdom we can draw upon when life challenges us.

And this is what I wanted to capture when creating ELEMENTALS WATER.

Not simply the smell of water, but its emotional and soulful qualities expressed through fragrance, its physical dimension explored through our Essential Body Serum, and its living connection with nature experienced through sound.

Scent. Touch. Sound.

The next time you find yourself beside water, stop for a moment. Watch it. Listen to it. Feel its movement.

And perhaps ask yourself: What can Water teach me about my own nature?

We are nature. You are nature.

I find this absolutely fascinating.

Think about it. That tree outside your window isn’t simply something beautiful to look at. It’s part of the extraordinary web of life that sustains us.

We share ancient evolutionary roots with plants. Our cells have much of the same fundamental machinery, and even the molecules of chlorophyll and haemoglobin contain remarkably similar structures.

And then there’s the beautiful relationship between our breathing and photosynthesis.

We breathe in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Plants use carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to produce the sugars that sustain them, releasing oxygen in the process.

We’re connected in ways most of us rarely stop to consider.

But what fascinates me even more is that plants are not the passive, silent beings we often imagine.

They respond to light, touch, changes in their environment and one another through an extraordinary range of chemical and electrical signals.

And what if we could actually hear some of that activity?

Through biosonification, electrical signals from living plants can be translated into audible sound.

When I began working with sound artist Justin Wiggan on the ELEMENTALS soundscapes, this opened up an entirely new dimension of experiencing the natural world.

We weren’t simply adding beautiful music to a fragrance.

We were exploring the possibility of experiencing the living qualities of plants through sound, alongside scent and touch.

And that is at the heart of why I created ELEMENTALS.

Not simply to make something that smells beautiful, but to share what I’ve learned about the Five Elements, the natural world and our relationship with both.

To create sensory experiences that invite us to feel something, question something, and perhaps look at the world a little differently.

The next time you walk past a tree, perhaps stop for a moment.

Look at its leaves. Consider the life moving within it. Think about the remarkable relationship between its existence and your own.

And remember that nature isn’t something separate from you.

We are nature. You are nature.

Within gentleness, there is power.

Water is gentle enough to hold in your hands, yet powerful enough to carve through stone and reshape entire landscapes.

It nourishes life. It extinguishes Fire. It finds a way forward, even when there appears to be none.

There is a wisdom in Water — a quiet strength that doesn’t need force to be powerful.

In the Five Elements, when our Water energy is depleted, we can feel anxious, insecure or uncertain of the way forward. We can lose touch with our courage and our ability to trust ourselves.

That understanding is at the heart of ELEMENTALS Water.

Lavender and clary sage bring calm and clarity. Black pepper brings warmth, courage and the impulse to move forward. Violet leaf adds a cool, green freshness, while ambergris grounds the fragrance with a gentle caress.

Each ingredient has its place in a composition created to reflect the nature of Water itself — its wisdom, its courage, its gentleness and its extraordinary power.
