Vice President Juldeh Jalloh Is Special Guest at The Launch of Guinea’s New Foreign Policy Documen

CONAKRY, Guinea - 9th September 2026: The Republic of Guinea, on Wednesday, officially launched its new Foreign Policy Document at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, with Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, attending as a Special Guest of the Guinean Government during his two-day working visit to the country.

The high-level event, under the aegis of the Head of Government and Prime Minister, His Excellency Amadou Oury Bah, brought together senior government officials and diplomatic representatives around a policy framework intended to define Guinea’s international engagement, regional partnerships and economic diplomacy.

Launching the document, the Prime Minister said Guinea’s foreign policy would be guided by sovereignty, strategic neutrality, economic transformation, peace and African integration. He stressed that the country’s embassies must become platforms for “influence, negotiation, economic mobilization, and national influence,” while partnerships would be assessed according to their contribution to productive investment, employment, infrastructure, skills transfer and technology.

He also reaffirmed Guinea’s commitment to regional stability, saying, “Africa is our family, the world is our horizon,” and outlined priorities including good neighbourliness, shared security, economic corridors, energy cooperation and coordinated border management.

Earlier, the Prime Minister paid a courtesy call on VP Juldeh Jalloh at the Radisson Blu Hotel, further underscoring the close diplomatic relations and growing cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

Sidie Tunis Calls for Urgent Probe into Alleged US Visa Fraud Using His Name

Former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Member of Parliament for Pujehun District, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, has called for an urgent investigation into circumstances surrounding an alleged 2023 United States visa application reportedly made in his name and that of a person described as his Executive Assistant.

The controversy emerged after Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis was reportedly informed by the United States Embassy in Freetown that he did not qualify for a visa to travel to the United States, despite being a high-profile official who has travelled to the country on previous occasions.

According to information made available, a Note Verbale was allegedly transmitted by Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to the US Embassy in Freetown in 2023, requesting visas for Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis and an individual identified as Chabatan Bah, who was reportedly presented as his Executive Assistant.

Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, however, has strongly denied knowing or ever employing anyone by that name.

According to him, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, he maintained that Chabatan Bah had never served as his Executive Assistant, either during his tenure as Leader of Government Business in Sierra Leone’s Parliament or while serving as Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.

“I have never employed anyone for that role. In fact, this name is strange to me. I am hearing this name for the first time. I am even wondering whether this so-called Executive Assistant is a male or a female. I don’t know this person,” Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis was quoted as saying.

The development has prompted the prominent ruling party lawmaker and SLPP flagbearer aspirant to formally request the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.

Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis wants the investigation to establish who allegedly prepared or facilitated the diplomatic correspondence, how his name was used and who authorized the purported visa request involving the individual identified as Chabatan Bah.

The matter has raised questions that could require clarification from the relevant authorities, particularly concerning the procedures governing the issuance and authentication of Notes Verbales for official overseas travel.

Sources cited in connection with the matter further alleged that Chabatan Bah was subsequently issued a US visa and travelled to the United States but did not return to Sierra Leone. That claim had not been independently verified at the time of publication.

When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for the US Embassy in Freetown reportedly declined to discuss the individual case, stating: “We do not comment on individual visa applications.”

The controversy comes at a critical time for Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, who is reportedly included on the official Government of Sierra Leone delegation scheduled to travel to New York for this month’s United Nations General Assembly.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has not publicly responded to the allegations or Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis’ request for an investigation by press time.

An official investigation could help establish whether Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis’ identity or official position was improperly used, who was responsible for the 2023 diplomatic communication and whether established procedures were followed.

Until those questions are answered, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis maintains that he had no knowledge of the individual reportedly presented to US authorities as his Executive Assistant and has called on the Foreign Ministry to establish the facts surrounding the matter.

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES: 4 September 2026 - The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a landmark resolution establishing 27 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage, marking a historic milestone in the global fight to protect girls from child marriage and safeguard their rights, dignity, education and future. The resolution was adopted by consensus, bringing all 193 UN Member States behind a unified call for stronger action to eliminate the practice.

The historic resolution was championed by Sierra Leone’s First Lady and President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), H.E. Dr. First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, whose years of advocacy for the protection and empowerment of women and girls have helped elevate the issue onto the global stage. The adoption provides an annual international platform for governments, civil society, communities and development partners to intensify awareness, prevention, protection and action against child, early and forced marriage.

Reacting to the adoption, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio said, “Today, the world has spoken with one voice: child, early, and forced marriage has no place in our societies.” She described the resolution as more than symbolic, calling it “a global mandate for action” and reaffirming the responsibility of leaders and advocates to ensure that every girl is free to dream, learn and thrive without being forced into marriage.

The achievement is the result of years of collaboration among African First Ladies, grassroots organisations and global child-rights advocates, including Just Rights for Children and its founder, Bhuwan Ribhu. Ribhu welcomed the adoption as a tipping point in the campaign, while stressing that the real work begins now. He called for unified action by governments, civil society, faith leaders, communities and children, with decisive leadership to end child marriage by 2030.

With 27 November now established as an International Day, the global community has a new annual opportunity to turn attention into action and accelerate efforts to end child, early and forced marriage. For Sierra Leone and Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, today's adoption is both a historic victory and a renewed commitment to the millions of girls whose futures remain at risk.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: WEAH’S ARRIVAL TURNS CHAOTIC AT THE AIRPORT

MONROVIA, LIBERIA

Former Liberian President George Manneh Weah has returned to Liberia, drawing a massive crowd of supporters, journalists, media personnel, and well-wishers at the airport.

What was expected to be a routine arrival quickly became chaotic as crowds gathered tightly around the former president, making it difficult for him to move from the airport terminal to his waiting vehicle.

Supporters of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) were among those who turned out in large numbers to welcome Weah. The heavy congestion also made it difficult for journalists and other media professionals to secure an opportunity to interview the former president before his departure from the airport.

Security personnel were forced to work through the crowd, attempting to create a clear passage for Weah and maintain order as he made his way to his vehicle.

Despite the disorder, the large turnout underscored the continued public interest surrounding the former president. Weah, a former international football star who served as Liberia’s president from 2018 to 2024, remains one of the country’s most recognizable political figures.

The scenes at the airport highlighted the strong level of attention that continues to surround Weah whenever he makes a public appearance.

Reporter’s Note:
While political opinions surrounding George Weah remain diverse, his latest arrival demonstrates that he continues to command significant public attention and mobilize large numbers of supporters.
