Egyptians have known the importance of Massage for thousands of years!
This is an artist's rendition of the carving in the Physicians Tomb (belonging to Ankhmahor, the Vizier during the reign of Teti) in Saqqara. This is considered by some authorities as the earliest positive record of reflexology treatment. Also the earliest known written records of massage therapy were discovered in Egypt, in the tomb of Ptah-hotep (a Vizier during the reign of Djedkare, during the 5th dynasty in the Old Kingdom). Ptah-hotep is portrayed while having his legs massaged by a servant.
Egyptologists have uncovered papyrus dating back over 3,000 years describing various medical procedures, one of them being the manipulation of the spine by the hands.
